I woke up this morning knowing this adventure will soon end and that I'll be home by days end... riding on Route 66 has been a journey back in time for me... seeing these small communities and imagining what life must have been like during the Route's infancy was fantastic... it was officially decommissioned in 1985. Route 66 still holds that certain allure for some and was one of the roads that was begging to ride on... maybe it was the movies, books, or TV shows I've seen but I'm glad to have travelled on the Mother Road...

the El Trovatore would have been a fun motel to stay for the night... most of the walls are covered with murals and claims to have the longest road map of Route 66...

Those photos make me want to go buy a V7 and hit what's left of Route 66!

this is the biggest train that I've ever seen... the road wheels were taller than I was...

after leaving Kingman... Route 66 lead me out to the desert on Oatman Road...
    37g1.jpg

and into the mountains... I didn't know what lay ahead... I was too busy saying "this road sucks" as I went over the tar snakes... but it was well worth it at the end...

this pretty much ended my ride on Route 66 when I got here... it was getting late in the afternoon anyway with all the fun I had on Oatman Road so I decided to "break contact" and slab it home... I knew I'd be facing traffic since I was back in California and still needed to get through Victorville known for its congestion along with the I-15 / I-215 split in San Bernardino... I used copious amounts of lane splitting to get through these areas and make it home by 5pm...

One of these days when we are sitting around a campfire I'm going to ask you how you kept your food cost so low.

Welcome home brother! Now let's go ride.

Good to see you made it home safely Rudy. Another prime road trip report with awesome pictures. Thanks for taking us along. Guess for now I'll shift over to gpax's thread and follow his trip in the opposite direction. Looking forward to your fall New England trip....Dave
