we didn't really had the time to explore the mines, there were so many of them. we want to get back to camp to watch the jimmy lewis demo.

though my ride was short, still had a great time. thanks to chu and dave for stepping up, leading, sweeping and mentoring the group.

Saturday (3/24)

Saturday plan was to head down to Ballarat to meet my dad and a couple others for an easy ride out to Striped Butte and back.

Had to get up earlier than usual, but was worth it for the sunrise


Dave and I had loaded our bikes in his truck the previous night to save some time and skip the pavement.
We rolled out after a quick breakfast and arrived at Ballarat around 8am to find dad and his neighbor Brett already unloading.

Let's ride

Cruising south down past Briggs Mine, the road was in great shape and even had some random puddles.


Regrouping before Goler... Dave (DSM8), Brett, and Dad914.


I raced ahead to get above the 'steps' for pics...

Dad and Brett rode up no problemo, but Dave fumbled his first attempt

I gotta force dad to stop for a break once in awhile, and this was good spot.


Pretty soon we heard more engines rumbling up the canyon.

Turned out to be rjnutt (Rob) and his fairly large group.

Saturday (3/24)

Pushing on up the canyon...

First I chased Dave for a bit, but he was too slow ...


...so I went around and caught up with dad, who had gotten way out ahead





We made a short stop at Barker Ranch, where we found RJ's group looking for Charlie.
Totally forgot to take any pics 'cause we've been there many times before.
(Sorry. Y'all probly saw the pics a few pages back anyhow.)

Moving on towards Mengel Pass.


Fun little section of banked turns


Trouble up ahead... Someone picked a line that was already occupied by a large boulder


Climing up through the rocky section approaching the pass...


... and down through more rocks on the other side.


Arrived at geologist cabin right at noon and had it all to ourselves for about a minute before the 'other' group arrived.


Sometimes this place gets busy.

Saturday (3/24)

Most years we'll do some more poking around towards Redlands Canyon to see another cabin or two, but skipped it this time and started heading back.

The ride back down Goler went by pretty quick.


I don't think we stopped at all.

Back to the trucks where dad and Brett loaded up to head home, while Dave and I loaded up and rolled back to PSR.

Saturday (3/24)

Back at camp and took a little time to relax and refresh

Then over to party central to see if Joel needed any help


Ended up being conscripted into raffle duty, so this was the only pic I took of the party.


(I had no idea what to do and felt totally out of place, but it was fun just the same )

Finished off the evening wandering from campfire to campfire... good times!

hello tom. it's always great to see you, inspire us at your your age that you still kick ass and ride a lot.

never heard a comment from anyone about the food, and i'll take your word. they've been catering us for many years now and i'm happy with the service. so far, they're the only one who would come to PSR who would charge us the city price.

anyone needing a caterer, contact "partyworks etc. - buena park, ca. i could also give you a name and phone number.

thanks matt for waiting. your saturday RR is very nice. i didn't get the chance to do goler, better hurry up while the steps are not too bad.

i will continue mine next week, since i too have to go to warped. will see you at 7pm in kernville for dinner.
