    G’day Beet,

Whilst I can understand the sentiments of your post, viz the OCR is a standalone event and should not be influenced by comments on this forum. However, it should be remembered that many OCR attendees are also participants on this forum. And yes, I can’t quote the actual numbers. Notwithstanding that, I’d suggest that this forum is possibly the best way these participants can keep in contact and express their thoughts.

It’s difficult to understand how the Forrest option was thought through properly when the location simply doesn’t have the facilities for such a large gathering. It would appear that subsequent discussions and investigations reinforce this fact.

My comment was simply a reply to Bully1, and in reference to there being no vote at Mungeranie, and the ensuing brouhaha that followed. As it happens, I was hoping for Mt Dare to be nominated, but didn’t get a chance to speak to it, nor to vote. Regardless of the process, the revised venue (in my view) has turned out for the best, and it should be well and truly put behind us all.

Not really sure what you mean by your statement “...many on here think they own the OCR and have no balls or vision.”, nor do I understand to whom it refers. I fail to understand the reference (or relevance) to your perception that someone lack of balls or vision. It would be a great pity, and extremely disappointing, to realise that your comment is targeted towards some particular individuals. If so, would not a PM (or a phone call) be a more appropriate method of communication? Your “...to (sic) blunt then get over it...” comment appears to be quite combative and not particularly constructive. Irrespective of the source, surely you’re not trying to discourage any discussion or input.

    All the best,

    GOB

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the OCR began as a breakaway from or alternative to the Centre Rally. Maybe history repeats.

Of course I may have imagined that and could be wrong.

    G’day Clancy,

At Mungeranie, you were a significant advocate for Forrest, and I’m glad you’ve chimed in.

The fact that Forrest does not have the facilities to host such a large gathering as the OCR is simply irrefutable. How can any clear thinking person say that the Forrest proposal was thought through properly when it blatantly hasn’t the facilities? Did you (or anybody else) contact Forrest and discuss the proposal prior to putting it forward?

Perhaps if someone has never been to Forrest before, they could make an understandable assumption that their facilities could cope, but to advocate an unknown venue is, at best, unwise.

Sorry mate, I was just trying to make a rational comment in my earlier post about the Vote/No Vote situation.

    Let’s put it to rest.

    Cheers,

    GOB

PS. I agree entirely about the OCR not being an ADV thing. Please see my reply to Beet.

No one is unhappy about Mt Dare.
And if you are referring to Grumpyoldbastd’s post, I do not see this degenerating into an argument.

If you read the comments carefully you will see the simple point being made that people were unhappy that at the last OCR no real vote was taken and Forrest was pushed as the next destination, when it very clearly does not suit.
They do not have the facilities (alcohol and fuel) and a simple check would have confirmed that BEFORE Forrest was so strongly proposed/pushed.

And although Beet did state, quite correctly, that the OCR doesn’t “belong” to people on this forum, it was a forum member . . farcall, Post 80 on page 4 . . . that gave definitive advice on why Forrest was a completely wrong call.

So, all’s well that ends well.

But maybe this year at Mt Dare, before anyone pushes too hard for this place or that, some prior checks are made that all proposed destinations are feasible.
(To avoid all the anguish and distress that has been so amply displayed here :D)

    Just saying :dunno

Subject to confirmation from you guys, I believe Mt Dare will be the 18th OCR (it’s a bit scary when you think about it – where did those 36 years go?).

Was thinking about these past events, and just for a bit of fun, thought I’d ask which of these could be considered as the best OCR. Obviously there’s a need to define what is meant by the word “best”. It’s very subjective, but perhaps the qualitative measures could be defined by the venue, the journey, the company, or the amount raised for the RFDS. BTW, to whom is the receipt for the RFDS donation made out to, and who then claims that donation on their tax return? I’d suggest that if one person is nominated on the RFDS receipt, then that person could be held legally responsible (and therefore liable) for organising the rally. The same question could also be asked of most other rallies which donates any profits to charity.

To refresh our memories (and please correct me if I’m wrong) the past OCRs were:

    ‘84 – Innamincka, ‘86 – Rabbit Flat, ‘88 – Lawn Hill (Adels Gve), ‘90 – Mt Augustus, ‘92 - Stonehenge, ‘94 – Mt Dare, ‘96 – Hells Gate, ‘98 – Cameron’s Cnr, ‘00 – Mornington Stn, ‘02 – Urandangi, ‘04 – Innamincka, ‘06 – Gascoyne Jnct, ‘08 – Lorrella Spring, ‘10 – Wannaring, ‘12 – Bramwell Stn, ‘14 – Drysdale Stn, ‘16 – Mungeranie, ‘18 – Mt Dare, ’20 - ???

For me, the best was probably Drysdale, but I haven’t attended nearly half of the events.

For all you old timers, who have attended most, the question is: “Which was the best for you?”.

This subject obviously begs the next question – “What are the possible future venues for the OCR?” Off the top of my head: Jervois Stn (if’n they sell booze), Hungerford, Tobermorey Stn (if’n they sell booze), Betoota (if’n it gets set up properly), Thargomindah, Top Springs R/H, Cape Crawford R/H, Dunbar Stn (if’n they sell booze), Tjukayirla R/H (properly will never sell booze).

Holy crap, just added up the years that’d be required to achieve all these venues... I’d be nearly 90 years old. Dunno about you guys, but it just ain’t gonna happen for me. Which also raises the question – How old do you have to be before you stop going to OCRs? I’m sure Chris Mc and some of you will still be going to OCRs well beyond 100 years old.

    Over to you.
