Thought I'd try to get to a place called
White House landing on the Tahqumenon, but as the trails head into the lower ground towards the river it gets damp, then swampy, got turned around a few times on account of big mud holes, I have another angle of attack on it, might try latter, but as the sun angle gets lower and less heat, with more moisture in the air it might be next July, with a dry summer before I have a chance of success in getting there

So yesterday I tried a different tack to get to Whitehouse landing.

When the bike was purchased it came with some extras, one of those was progressive springs, so those were slid in with fresh Honda 10w, finally got the sv 650 front brake and 320mm rotor sorted out, nobody mentioned that these sv's had many variations in the same year, the caliper I bought had 30mm pistons, seems most have 27mm, well I sent the 27's back to Toledo East Honda (great place to buy online) and then stared looking for info on the differences, struck out on that so going thru Suzuki numbers for sv's I spotted one that was unique, took a chance and ordered it, got lucky the seals are 30mm


Then spooned these on, Shinko E805, thanks to everyone who recommended these, the cheapskate klr is starting to rub off on me, not really I'm a natural born tightwad.

Not much info on this place, a timber baron named Cullhane had a rail grade to run timber down to the Tahquamenon most likely 1890's to 1910's.
the grade is pretty steep for a rail not sure how it was done. Hard to tell from picture here but this section is well elevated maybe 30 feet or so, in other places they made a cut to keep it straight.

There isn't much at the old landing, just a small clearing, some unnatural formations in the ground off in the woods, probably an area to hold timber and equipment, some small buildings who knows it's all lost to the relentless march of time.



The Tahquamenon

A small stream that runs by where they must have had a shop set up, or just tents, hard to tell over the last 100 years or so the woods have reclaimed most of it.

Your not cheap ... just frugal. There's a definitive difference.

Have you ever compared pricing with Ron Ayers and Bike Bandit ? They have good pricing also.

Don't recall if you ever mentioned mileage on your KLR; how many miles does it have on the odometer ?

What are your early impressions on the Shinko E805 ?

Yes I've checked those places, price is all pretty consistent among all of them, I have used Toledo East for years now and I like when there is a back order or something they always get in touch to see what you want to do, or you can call them and actually talk to a live human, also Rocky Mtn atv/mc is a favorite of mine.

I like the tires, a whole lot better than the k750's, the Dunlops spun up too easy, and the back end would try to swap ends, well it still does not near as much with these.

Can't say much about pavement since I'm hardly on it.

On gravel roads it's all the same, at least to me, I think a road racing slick would feel the same as the most knarley knobby on gravel, lets face it your riding on marbles pretty much, some folks that bothers them, some folks not so much.

Some of the extras also are an Eagle Mike doo, and a top gun rear spring, waiting for RM/atv/mc to get them cheap tusk gaskets back in stock then I'll do the doo

On the big Beemer, I feel ALOT more stability and grip (and am more comfortable with carrying more speed) on MOST gravel roads with the knobbies versus a street oriented tire. Where there is less of a difference (as you suggest) is when the gravel is very deep. In my opinion and on the really big bike.

I didn't have much time today, got up a little late, more on that in a bit, but I just wanted to get out and ride while I can, this weather won't stay like this much longer. Not a picture day a little over 150 miles in about 4 hours, the kickstand was deployed only once, secondary reason today was to check out some roads west of Paradise.


Watch out for them falling trees, that one would ring your bell

The reason for getting up late today was the truck show in St.Ignace sat.

I've been driving trucks off and on since I was a teenager, mostly on, and at the end of the day I slam the door shut on them and don't look back till the next day, but sometimes it's cool to look at other trucks especially old ones, ones I used to drive,although the ones I drove were not even close to these restored models.

Luftkoph, you're the best! I love the U.P., just returned from a few days up there (Marquette, Big Bay, Craig Lake, L'Anse; H-58 from Munising to Grand Marais, and then checked out Seney...) on my V-Strom. Perfect timing, your posts make me feel all warm and fuzzy. The bike is no longer the filthy pig it was when I arrived back home, but if you were to look, I'm sure there's still mud on it somewhere from my ride out to Point Abbaye!

By the way, what do you think of Bessie's in St. Ignace, for pasties?

I have always wanted to catch the truck show but the timing doesn't work. I have seen the car show several times on my visits.
