So I got the exhaust gasket in the mail. And it came with this tool. I have no idea what this is for. Or how to use it. Someone please inform me.

Haha hate to say it, but that’s a Chevy starter shim. No idea if it’s some kind of tool too...

So weird. No idea why they would have sent it. Google the part number. It’s for probably a truck or car in the 1990’s or 2000’s, like a Chevy S10 or something...

I’m waiting on an item in the mail too, and then will go out and work on bikes.

I have no idea what it is. I have a few more parts to order as well. The chain guard that hooks to the swing arm and protects the chain and swing arm looks like it is going to be the most expensive part thus far. I can't find a cheap one and any that come from China are out of the question. So it is straight from the dealer and it is nearly fifty bucks.

Did you check eBay? I typed in “chain guard Yamaha 225” and see some for around 20$ For the XT and etc which may be the same.

Also, Chevrolet starters take shims to space the starter gear to the flywheel. That’s what it is.

It's a more of a guide than a guard. And it attaches to the swing arm where the swing arm attaches to the frame the chain slides over it. Just a plastic piece. 15479699402161376833756.jpg

Oh yeah chain slider. Do need one of those for sure. Glad you found a cheap one. Some people make them out of cutting boards and all sorts of things when they can’t be found. Keeps chain from digging up the swingarm.

I got the CL back together and it’s running. Ran out of daylight tho so no testing. Maybe today.

I’m assuming? So if you have Haynes, should be fine.

The strange part that came with the exhaust gasket is DEFINATELY a GM starter shim.

20190120_235239.jpg Getting the thing wired back up . 20190120_235251.jpg And the clutch cable back in place. 20190120_235931.jpg I put the exhaust back on. The more I play with this thing the more it makes me want to keep it . I think I have totalled it up to about 500 bucks, give or take, after getting all the other parts I will need. You can't find one that cheap in good running condition. 20190121_001712.jpg

Exhaust heat shield is back on and looking nice. 20190121_002452.jpg intake manifold. 20190122_141552.jpg I had to give myself a little inspiration to get this thing finished up. It's still super cold here. So I'm just gonna finish it inside and drive it out the front door.
