So things got a little out of hand, the mods moved some posts to the basement and I got scolded for cross posting to the GSpot. But more importantly, things are happening on the bike front. BMW NA’s involvement is yielding positive results. But you’ll have to go read about it here: https://advrider.com/f/threads/power-button-failure-help.1356145/page-4 This page is for the Ride Report and, well, I got nothing to report. You’ve already seen the clams.
Sorry for crapping in your thread. I was actually trying to help. I did not realize the mods would be sensitive to my content.
A nice couple day ride is over to Mendoza, up to Paso Agua Negre and back to La Serena, going through all the wine country, might be good to see once your BMW is done before you head south again. Fantastic riding from Santiago.
Haven’t been to Mendoza yet but crossed border at Paso Agua Negra and came out onto the coast at La Serena. The bike died just south of La Serena.
Side note on remote key fobs. Cars couldn't be unlocked or started while alarms howled in the parking lot at an Alberta supermarket. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/carstairs-key-fob-mystery-solved-grocery-store-1.5003043
Just seeing "La Serena" in print brings back memories. Almost exactly two years ago I hit an extremely large goat 50 miles north of La Serena. I had my broken leg operated on and spent five nights in the clinic there. Fortunately I had bought medjet assist evacuation insurance. I don't think I'll take another long trip without it.
WOW, just finished reading your RR. What a crappie turn of events. This is making me more satisfied with the outdated pig of a bike my KLR is. Good luck and hope you can salvage your trip.
This afternoon, I picked up a loaner bike from BMW. Sounds like my bike will be ready next Tuesday. So, I’m getting out of here for a few days. Try out my new tent and stuff. Get out of the city. See some stars.
When you start a report, there is a responsibility to update us poor souls who hasn't in you every word.
Good to see some progress, thought we might catch up to you but hopefully your back on the road soon. State safe and sane. Josh and Stef
Okay, so I got out of there as quick as I could and headed south. Found some dirt but it was short lived. And just worked my way south for as long as I could while trying to stay off Rte5. At the end of the day, I wound up at a campground on a lake East of Talca. Nice place. Cool dogs. And, got to try out my tent. Next day I bombed south, over 500kms on Rte 5 to MotoCamp, just east of Pucon. The beer tap is a good sign.
