My brother and I just rode in that area and expected to do our usual route and end up going west to connect to Snake Road aka Government Road and we found it gated at the very west end. So we had to make a U turn less than 2 miles away from Snake Road... It is now no longer possible to get to the Miccosukee/ Billy Swamp safari area unless you take I-75... or come in from Clewiston or Immokalee.... To the thought that it was a great idea to close this off, a hearty ,
Going west just after... I have no idea who or why it was done as now you have to enter the area from US 27 or the Miami canal from Clewiston if that is still open.
It may have been added by the tribe, I was pulled over a couple of times while riding dirt roads near there by tribal police. They consider even the roadways to be private property.
Never had an issue riding around there before, so maybe they are cracking down on riding around on their land. I still wonder why they shut of access to and from HolyLands even for their own people...
It's certainly not going to help businesses on the Res that get much of their revenue from hunters and recreation riders/drivers. Pretty foolish of whomever did it.
I totally agree and was thinking of that too. To add to this what about an emergency medical issue??? How quick can EMS now get out there? Pretty stupid IMHO. If they claim private roads than that should be posted IMHO, even if it is their land.
Well after some brilliant research I found out that this closing is temporary due to construction of the water treatment areas nearby. So when that gets done it should reopen. No exact date is known at this time... https://www.sfwmd.gov/recreation-site/stormwater-treatment-area-56-sta-56
I saw that was closed too but those pumps look like they are temporary like the ones going in at Loxahatchee using two of the four boat ramps there... I really think that they mean temporary as a lot of these areas are open to hunters etc... Keeping fingers crossed..
I was able to go form Holey Land to Miami Canal Rd and through what seemed to be some commercial farm lands all the way out to near Dinner Island. One of the roads did have a gate and had to ride the canal south to the next block where the next gate had enough room for bike seats to go through.
Holylands to Miami canal and then to Clewiston is open and if you go down west on Rogers road you can make it to Dinner Island or come out west of Clewiston on iirc the 835... Don’t know where you are turning off to go through a gate to get to Dinner Island though
As you mentioned on another thread (rider1150gsadv), this road is open again. Just so the others who were watching his thread know. :)
Which resulted in an 60 mile detour around the reservation to get to Immokalee on more levee so it wasn’t bad..
