Cheers OB. Talk about bad timing. Tiger is out of action awaiting parts from the UK and I'm out of town part of next week. Will try and catch up with them if I can though.

Yo, slightly delayed start, but rain stopped on the harbour bridge, then copped another lot around Rotorua. Kept the dust down, though :-)
Lots of sunshine and backcountry in between, hardly saw another soul, too. Looking forward to some decent gravel tomorrow.

    from an earlier post..

No itinerary as such, but a few firm bookings at head+tail of the fortnight to nail the basics.
Sun/Mon/Tues are a bit of a gallop south while using the backroads/ gravel to try and avoid all bigger places and prim./sec. hwys.
Firm o/n stops are Thornton Beach, Lake Whakamarino and Waipawa. After that, things will slow down, cameras out, zig-zagging south between the beaches and SH2.

300km Cape Palliser loop on Sun 31 (ex ~ Greytown)

Late reply is the correct one...
Another delayed start due to rain, then a total soaking along the coast and up the Motu, fog and cold up top...... then 28C down the road in Gizzy (which wasn't on the plans originally) Missed the gravel around Rere and Pekiri etc. but made up for it with some stunning stuff through the backblocks from Tiniroto to Tuai via Ohura.

More re-routing tomorrow as it got too late for a fuel run tonight, gotta slot that in after brecky.
Zigzagging the gravel, cutting across from the 38 to the 2 just north of Napier.
Time to get south....before the next lot of rain :-)

Lucky the last couple of days. Dannevirke now and checking possible routes for tomorrow to dodge the worst of the incoming weather.
    Trying for Pongaroa....via the backblocks.
Te Uri was a highlight... and lots of "hills", Ugly Hills and Old Hills, which matched the old+ugly at the tillers.
Funny how one district tries to outdo the next by tipping bigger, coarser and deeper gravel onto ever patch of dirt they call "road" :-)
Even got a bit of beach in at Blackhead, nice.

Most outstanding so far have been the Tuai->Putere stretch, Cricklewood, Darkys Spur and afew others around that area.....choice stuff.

About 9.00, it's a 300km loop back to Greytown incl. Admirals Rd. etc.

    :-(

    About 9...and finishing in Greytown.

And thanks for putting on the great weather, folks....had a cracker morning up Whariti Peak (up to the cloud level), found some limeworks at the top of a hill on the way to Waihi Falls (what a place to work, eh?...those views!!) and had a good, old wriggle on a fresh blanket of 2" gravel down Rimu Rd.
Throw in a million bends of tar-seal and the odd pucker moment....stir slowly.
Patchy sunshine all the way for some speccy light+shadows photos, too. Enjoyed the show, enjoyed the ride!! :-)

Forecast looking fine for the weekend :-)
Pongaroa has proven the jackpot-location thus far, LOTS of sweet, lil' gravel-roads all around with views that wanna make you pitch a tent for a week or so right there and then..., the Puketoi Lodge is doing its namesake gravel track all honours, the place is a gem.
More dramatic skies and lighting, some half-forgotten "spur" roads, a coldie at the Wimbledon Pub, a nice, long yack with some farmers fixing fences on the Pori's most scenic bit....this is jampacked paradise.
    I need another beer...
