If I wasn’t doing a fly and ride for a second KTM 990 this week I would be really tempted to buy this and ride it just like it is. I love the roulette green but you never see one of these with the original paint.
Been weighing up a new bike for some time, narrowed it down to Monster 1200S and Speed Triple RS. Spent a heap of time researching and watching video after video. Today I visited the dealers and spent some time with each bike. Looks like I will be bringing home a Crystal White Speed Triple RS very soon
In the process of upgrading. Sold my Sulfur Yellow 2013 ABS last week. Have a tentative deal cut on a 2016 S(3k miles), pending my inspection. Only $1500 out of pocket on the deal, before ad valorem. 3 years newer, better color, TC/Gear Indicator, ride by wire, more ponies. A big win I believe. I was initially going for a 2019, but as a cash buyer with hard limits, it was an overreach. This way, I have $3000 left in my 'toy fund'....will sell the 2016 in a couple years by which time the 2019's will have made their way to the used market. Out with the old. In with the new.

I thought about putting this in the Trip Reports Tread but decided it was better here because the trip was on my Speedy!!! After over 2 years of just strapping a dry bag on the pillion seat and just going for a road trip (I had been trucking or trailering my bikes the last 2 years) I got the itch to take my newest Speedy RS for a old fashion road trip. Started on Saturday May 18th in Cape Canaveral and I did a loop up thru Virginia's Low Lands to Front Royal. Then down Skyline Drive and the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway and over to Robbinsville where a stayed 3 days and played in the area. Got home at 6:10pm yeterday, Friday May 24th. 2900 Miles 53 Hours & 15 Minutes on that horrible seat!!! Notwithstanding the uncomfortable seat, the Speed Triple was an enormous joy to ride. And I only got rained on briefly once!!! Here are some photos of my May Speedy Adventure Edit: I did NOT get a ticket for going 85MPH on the Blue Ridge Parkway--only a warning. Back Story: HD in front of me 2-Up. 40--20--50--30--40MPH. Dash Yellow passing lane opens up I go to casually pass. HD speeds up. I drop it down into 3rd and blast by. Park Ranger ahead on side of the road. He bought my story. Edit: That Vanderhall in the final photo was my play toy all day Thursday. I put over 250 miles on it. I would seriously consider one if they were larger in the seating area. The Venice was far too cramped for my large self. Maybe the Carmel Model that is coming out. They are an absolute blast. Looking at a 06 Speed triple this weekend anything to keep an eye out for, its got a nice aftermarket exhaust and 19k miles. How's the stock suspension for someone around the 200lb mark. I'm looking for something more nimble for street riding my FJR1300 is a total beefer.
I have not owned or ridden an '06 but I am familiar with others that have. If you get your suspension (I believe there is preload/rebound/damping adjustments for both ends) set-up for your weight the bike is amazingly capable and will bring fun and outright naughtiness to your riding experience. If you are a hardcore rack rider the stock chassis will not keep up but for most of us that enjoy a spirited twisty road ride that bike will not disappoint you. I owed a 2011 Base Model, a 2017R and now own the '19 RS model. It is my favorite bike in my line up.
I'm 94 kg plus gear, my 09 Speed Triple fits me really well, I haven't changed the suspension settings, just a sensational bike all round.
I ordered some stands from Aussie company Dynamoto, they are expensive but extremely well made and the unique design of the castors means that once the bike is on the stands it can be moved around my garage with one hand, it was easy to push the bike up beside my wife’s car and spin it around into the small space in front of it. I love them .
Great pics. I always wanted a Speed Triple but I could never get past the extended neck/googly eye look. In black it hides it much better. I love those roads.
I nearly lit my S3 on fire on Sunday. I really wanted to go for a fathers day ride so the day before I went out the garage to check the battery. It cranked slow but it started. I warmed it up and figured it would be good to go in the morning. I got up at 4am, had breakfast, did the space-suit gear up (layers, over pants, ear plugs etc etc) as it was going to be cold, went out to the garage and thumbed the start button and just *click* So I pulled the jump battery out of my backpack, jumped the bike, put everything back on and went to put it in first gear and the bike dies. One of the maddening issues I've had with this bike is an intermittent side stand switch cutting the engine....usually only when cold. Repeated the process from above, bike running and nearly warm, put it in gear and it dies. by this time Im starting to sweat and get angry. In my anger I attempted to bump it and nearly got it once or twice but it wouldnt stay running. Mind you, I have been struggling at home and at work a bit and was really looking forward to a ride to clear my mind and attain some peace. By this point I was a few blocks away from my house in the back of a coffee shop at 4.30am, seething, dripping with sweat and had already thrown my helmet across the parking lot. So I walked the bike back and somehow managed to not completely lose my mind. I put the bike on the charger while I changed my clothes. By the time I came back out, it had gained a few volts. So I took the charger off and jumped it off my wifes truck and let it get hot. As it was low idling I whispered to it... "Craigslist" Ive used this trick before and it seems to run great after I mention that I ran it down the street so when I put it in gear it would just slide in - and it did! I was off. Sitting at the stoplight, holding the throttle open a bit as to not let it stall. The light turns green and the bike stalls. I almost kicked it to the ground and just walked away....but I figured that it had gotten at least a little charge so I put it in 3rd and bumped it with everything I had in me and it started. I opened the throttle in third while sitting side-saddle and took off down the street. By then it was about 5.30am .... met up with a buddy of mine and we actually had a good ride but man..... this bike loves to fuck with my emotions....
