I share your frustration Snipesd - although it appears the 2019 models are slowly making their way west now - reports of some being delivered in the east of the country already... With regard to what you may or may not need/want - as I always say, it's going to depend on your priorities - and if you're not already familiar with a particular bike, then some time on it before you start to modify or accessorise is always prudent of course. That said, it's obvious that if you plan to head off pavement with the new CB500X, that some sort of engine guard and strong hand guards ought to be top of anyone's list, and similarly some more all-terrain appropriate tyres too - the Continental TKC80s work very well on the CB for example, both on and off road. With regard to spoked wheels and suspension - some people absolutely have to have the spoked wheel look regardless (and why not?!) - and at least with the 2019 model you can fit the 17/19" spoked wheels independently of any suspension upgrades now. However, where you really will appreciate any investment is in the upgraded suspension - be that the LEVEL 1 (standard travel/150mm) or LEVEL 2 (longer travel/170mm and fully adjustable shock). When you consider the price point, the new CB500X rides pretty well as standard (whereas the earlier models - especially the 2013-15 version - were pretty harsh once you started pressing on or riding rougher roads and trails) - so if primarily highway riding is your intention you may find it sufficient to retain the OEM components in the short term at least... But ultimately it is still a budget bike in their range, and the replacement fork kit from Rally-Raid (with proper shim valving, new dampers and springs) and either of the high quality rear shocks is going to make the bike feel like a much more expensive machine. I intend to get a few miles on a stock bike initially (so that I can make my own personal comparisons here), then fit a LEVEL 2 kit for the summer onwards... Jenny x
I'm on the Rally Raid website and when choosing the options for the level 2 package, under Handle bar setup, there is only the 7/8" option. Is the fat bar option gone?
Hi Jes' - no, but it's possible the fat-bar risers are currently out of stock so the option is hidden (the web-shop software does that sort of thing). I would drop an email to Rally-Raid info@rally-raidproducts.co.uk and say you'd like to order the Fat-Bar option, and I'm sure they'll be able to advise when the option will be live again - or make a note on your specific order. Hope that helps! Jenny x
Can a shock spring on a Tractive rear shock with remote preload be swapped out using this tool. AFAIK, the tool works for most rear shocks; OEM or aftermarket. http://www.unit-products.com/handtool/p1120.html
Hi All, With the '19 model, is the drilling modification still required for the Barkbusters on the OEM bars? Had a look but admittedly my search skills on this forum are a bit sub-par! Cheers
I ordered an engine guard from Rally Raid last week after receiving confirmation that they had a shipment arriving in a couple of weeks. To my surprise, I received it in the mail today. I've watched the install video and read the instructions and found that this can be quite a pain to install. Has anyone come up with some sort of bracket that ties into the engine mount that allows the guard to mount to it instead of directly to the engine mount? Thinking ease of removal for oil changes and such. Before ordering, I read that there was a new mounting system. So I was surprised to see that I received old stock even thought it was out of stock. Can anyone confirm in fact if there is a new mounting system?
I got a chance to spend some quality time on my RR CB I’m so impressed with its performance To see the whole thread go to https://advrider.com/f/threads/loess-hills-lust-2019.1388346/
Got my 19 in and home! I already have a set of Mosko Moto Scout 25s and a Rackless 80 so I'm wondering if anyone has fitted a set of Scout 25s to the Rally Raid side racks? I'm sure it can be done with a little modification if needed. Trying to decide if I'm going to do side racks or not.
Hi ksmoker2 - Looking at a video of the Scout 25 bags/mount, I'd suggest you try and mount them horizontally rather than vertically, since the CB doesn't have all that much room above the exhaust... otherwise you ought to be able to fit them to the RR soft-luggage racks easily enough - the plates have a series of holes and slots, and you can always drill extra holes the rack plates to line up exactly with the mounting holes on your luggage bracket if required.
