Full Throttle Touring - 150 through the Rocket City

Then it was time to head home. I took a more direct, faster and boring route home. I did see something I hadn't seen before.



A 55 MPH speed limit sign on a 2 lane road. Around my parents this would be 35. These speeds will probably break the string of 100 MPG fillups I had in Ohio. I filled up shortly before getting on this road. My 4 fillups in Ohio where: 100, 100, 106 and 103 MPGs

I was getting bored cruising along on straight roads so I found an excuse to stop.



I found this little chain and lock amusing. If someone had the means to haul away this big canon i doubt this little chain would stop them



That's it for this ride. It was my longest so far on this trip at nearly 160 miles. I'm not sure if I will ride any today so this may have been my last ride in this area.

Great report and pics as usual. I must admit, when I think about Ohio, beaches and lighthouses don't come to mind. Thanks for sharing!

Ohio, like most of the states in this country has many different parts. Ohio has a long coastline on Lake Erie and is IMO the most scenic part of the state. SE Ohio has some fantastic twisty roads and is pretty scenic as well. Along the Ohio river is also very scenic. Of course much of Ohio is flat farmland. That's what I consider "flyover country"

I did get in one last ride today. It was just a short ride to Chagrin Falls and back. I'll try to post those pics when I get the chance. I don't think I got any really great pics today.

Geneva is my home town. Miss this time of year. Used to take dates to the harbor overlook!

I managed to get in one last ride in Ohio. As I was getting ready to go I got a pic of what is a common sight in my parents yard.



Then I headed of with no real destination in mind. After a few minutes of riding I decided to ride to Chagrin Falls. Along the way I rode Falls road which is the brick road I posted earlier.

I found a place to park my scooter. There are normally other bikes here. Today it was mostly Harleys.



The majority of the bikes I saw while in Ohio were Harleys and it was rare to see the riders wearing helmets.

There was one other bike in town that wasn't a Harley. It was an early 80s Yamaha Virago in excellent condition.



Chagrin Falls always seems to be festively decorated, at least during the tourist season.



No ice cream pics but but the ice cream place is across the street here.



Then I rode back home. Later I loaded up the truck and the next day made the 670 mile drive back home. On the drive home I saw a ton of vintage cars and hot rods going north on 71 so there must have been a big event somewhere. I also saw a bunch of small groups of bikes with riders wearing Motorcycle club or gang colors. Most were blacked out Harleys but I did see one gang of mixed bikes which included a Hayabusa and white gold wing

It's been a while but I'm Baaaack! I was helping my parents move and went nearly two weeks without riding I'm surprised i didn't die from PMS but i did survive. After a few short rides around town I finally went on a longer ride last Yesterday. Unfortunately it was not under the best of circumstances. Someone who I have known the last few years through the Bamarides/Motorcycle Alabama forums recently passed away and there was a memorial get together last night in the Birmingham area. He was also on ADV so you may have seen some of his posts under the name Redclayrider.

I jumped on my Majesty and ride a little over 100 miles of mostly interstate to the Whole Foods in Hoover where the get together was scheduled in the restaurant there.

We had a big table inside and someone was playing videos with Harvie in them.



This pic was also taken early before many of the people showed up.

Harvie and I weren't close friends but we had known each other since 2014 when I first met him at the Barber motorsports park during a Track day. He was doing the track day on a Harley XR1200 and I even got a pic of him.



Then we saw each other at various rides and events over the years. The last time was back in march when I went down to Pelham to pick up my scooter and he met me at the dealer and we did a ride in the area. While it wasn't that exciting of ride we did stop by the Cahaba River and talked about life for a while and also had lunch later. Those are the things I remember the most about that ride and I'm glad I had that last chance to spend some time with him. Like I posted, we weren't close friends but it still made me sad that this happened. RIP Harvie

On a positive note it was great seeing a bunch of riding friends and aquaintances, many of whom I hadn't seen in a long time. I got there around 6:30 and didn't leave until around 11, getting home after 1 AM. That's way past my normal bedtime!


Tomorrow I'll be heading out on a street ride on my Versys. The route will include some N AL. and TN twisties and it looks like I'll have a couple of riders joining me. Hopefully I'll have a few pics to post tomorrow.

I got out and rode today. Four other riders met me in Gurley.



We had a fun ride on Alabama and Tennessee back roads. I didn't take many pics today partly because i was leading the ride, partly because I didn't go anywhere new and partly because I was lazy

It was nice getting out on the Versys which I have hardly ridden this year.

I'm down to three bikes now I don't remember the last time I only owned three bikes.

I sold the KLR to someone on the Motorcycle Alabama forum.

Bye bye KLR. It was a good bike. I bought it new in Jan, 2005 and put nearly 44,000 miles on it.

A smaller, Lighter dual sport bike. I'm leaning towards a KLX250.

Time for a Grom ?

You can get a Chinese made Hawk 250 for under $1500 (new) on Amazon.

Someday I'd like to get something tiny like a Grom or Z125 but first I need to get a true dual sport bike.

When you guys were here on your Groms I was seriously impressed by your bikes, your trip and the fact that the two of you were doing it together.

I'm back from what was an absolutely fantastic few days in the mountains of North Carolina and a bit of Tennessee. During this trip I was reminded of an old saying by Hannibal Smith in the series "The A-Team"......."I love it when a plan comes together"

In this case it almost didn't come together. Let me start from the beginning.

For those of you who don't hang out in the Battle Scooters Forum, we have a very close knit bunch of regulars and that group has been growing. Getting together and actually meeting forum friends has been happening. I have been wanting to meet some of the group and planned on making it happen.

Some time back @Bueller had posted that he would be in Maggie Valley for the month of August. Well I love Maggie Valley. It's central to a lot of fantastic riding and it's much cooler than here in Alabama. My life most of this summer has revolved around helping my parents move but finally things settled down and a window of opportunity opened up for a few days that I could get away. I was hoping to get a few more to join me. It took a while but I finally got the dates nailed down and then picked a motel for us to stay at. More people than I expected decided to come to this. Most were from ADV but there was also one from the Maxiscoots forum and one who I knew from the Motorcycle Alabama forum.

My plan was to leave early Sunday morning and get to Maggie Valley early enough to get in some riding on Sunday. Then the plan started to fall apart. I woke up early Saturday morning feeling sick as a dog. I felt like crap all day and didn't have enough energy to even pack for the trip.

CRAP!!! Why did this have to happen now

I started to feel a little better Saturday night and figured I'd be OK by Monday. I just pushed back my planned departure time on Sunday and cancelled and idea of riding. Well I did feel better Sunday and headed off to Maggie Valley arriving there around 3. @TrashCan was sitting in a rocking chair waiting for me when I arrived. Jerry and I met years ago through this forum and have ridden together a number of times. He was riding a Ninja 250 but has owned a couple of scooters and hangs out in Battle Scooters.

I unloaded my stuff then hung out with Jerry as other riders showed up. By that evening there where 6 of us:
