CSC City Slicker

    At 6am here it was 57F and compared to how warm it was over the summer it felt cold especially on a little bike like Slick. Finely warmed up to 85F and the evenings are still hot for now. It does seem to cool off nicely once the sun goes down. Probably have another 4 to 6 weeks of good riding weather then it will start getting questionable towards the middle of October. All bets are off by November though!

    I don't appear to be having this issue. I have about 700 miles on my Slick now, and the controller upgrade seems to be holding up. I do a lot of riding at 45- 50 mph (throttle wide open), and have tried several times over the last several days to let go of the fully open throttle after traveling at full speed for a few minutes to see if this lockup would occur. So far, no hint of it even though the recharge light automatically comes on. Are a lot of people seeing this?

    Does you're bike slow down when you let off the throttle? Mine definitely does right off the bat at 40 - 50 mph. I've actually been easing off the throttle to slow down on most turns that aren't too sharp and I don't even have to use the brakes. It's actually really smooth when going through twisties, ease off the throttle coming into the turn, then roll back on coming out. It's funny how after posting something, I start paying more attention to it and realize what I posted is not very accurate. The aggressive regen thing only happens when I'm going downhill at 40+ mph and it's very predictable. I know someone earlier in the thread had it happen to them and said it felt dangerous, like he was going to go over the handle bars. I've had it happen multiple times, probably over 20, I've even had it lock up my back tire once going 57 mph downhill, but I never felt in danger...I just give it a little throttle and it goes away. Now I avoid it by easing off the throttle to slow down. This is of course my experience on my bike, and these bikes are obviously not all performing exactly the same : )

    When I just let go of the throttle at full speed to see if the wheel locks up Slick slows down pretty quickly, though not what I would call aggressively. In normal riding, like you, I tend to ease off the throttle. I live at the coast where there are no real hills to go up or down, so I can't duplicate that part. Unfortunately, we don't have much in the way of twisties either.

    No warranty no worries! Lol. I've been running at 7.2kw constant with burst of 10kw in sport mode now. Off road tires. With a 72ah battery and charging at 11.5 amps. Now I have Bluetooth connection to my custom made battery and can see things like power draw, balance voltages, range remaining and charge % remaining. I have 3 speeds, plus sport mode, cruise control, regen button, and can lock my battery for theft reasons via Bluetooth. Riding out here in the mountains in Oregon is a blast. I put dirt tires on mine and fixed the saggy front shocks. I can actually trust my bike now As a bonus I've been charging mine off my solar system. Feels pretty cool cruising up the mountian trails on solar power. And she's fast now holy cow! 75+ on level ground.

    This is with the motor change you showed on Page 39, and the battery and controller changes you showed on Page 40 (with a hardware change or two)?

    Road Slick into work this morning. Got to work at 70%. Fairly typical average I am getting now. Notice my battery percentage is holding up despite the crisper mornings!

    For my ride home I am going to try yet another route? It will be about 2 miles further but will be slightly down hill most of the way. Its a route I don't think about because its so heavily congested but it will be creepy crawly enough to not need much energy. Will see how that works out!

    I think the best route going into the work is the shortest route but requires climbing some steep hills. Slick can hold about 31 MPH up those hills. Slightly better then the Grom or Monkey can believe it or not. The energy consumed climbing a hill however is pretty intense though. Depending on my ride home and my feelings I may try Route #3 for the ride into work but if its not congested its a very fast route even though its only 35 MPH on that road.

    Wow -- here's a video from Electric Race Technologies, demoing their controller upgrade for the City Slicker

    I especially love the actuated regen braking (using added 'regen throttle') which basically allows for 'one-pedal driving' (stopping without using brakes)

    Watch him pull 6000 Watts and 57 mph :D

    I think the aftermarket controller will be where its at for Slick reaching its true potential. Even though tremendous improvements have been made to the stock controller programming it can only go so far. I would be interested in a controller upgrade if it does not put anything else in jeopardy. I also don't think it would be difficult to hook in a smaller auxiliary battery in parallel for more capacity. In fact in time I bet you will be able to buy a battery with more capacity but have the same form factor once technology will allow it!

    Took route #3 home and traffic was actually a little lighter so I was moving fairly fast. However I got home at 40% remaining which is an improvement over my other route home. I assume going mostly down hill really helped here. I put another 3.5 miles on it but started heading home about 25%. It still had good snap off the line but my top speed was noticeably slower. I pulled into my driveway at about 18% and the best it would do was about 28 MPH at that point.

    My next test very soon will be to ride Slick into work and charge it up and then see if I have enough range to ride from work to the mall food court for dinner and then make it back home? In theory I should have just enough energy to do that but it will depend on my overall speed and the hills?

    My next step is to try Route #3 on my way into work? Its a longer but not as hilly but could potentially be faster. The power drop is significantly lower at 25 MPH then 35 MPH and above!

    Poor stock slicker battery putting out that kind of power. I wonder how mine failed at 80 Amps and hes pulling 100+. And csc said it was my fault . I'm running 150a (10,800w) in sport mode right now.

    But the stock 25AH slicker battery is only going to take you 20 miles or so with that level of power output. 15 minutes of 100a current draw on a good day. And that's if it doesn't go into thermal runaway with that kind of load.

    I repaired my shitty slicker battery (new bms) and I am going to reinstall it in the glove box area, to total 97ah capacity. After that I'll bump sport mode up to 175a or 12,500 watts. That's the same hp level as a new designed 250cc gasoline engine, and probably about quadruple the torque.

    I'm happy with it now, but I still think csc did me kind of dirty. I would have been raving about this thing if they would have at least replaced the faulty bms.

    Yes. I changed the motor (higher kv), controller (150a constant, 200a burst, custom made 72ah battery with 200a Bluetooth bms, custom display screen, and dirt tires.

    It actually feels overpowered now but I love it. Every stoplight I take off on one wheel . And it's quite a bonus to be able to program your own bike for your personal riding style and preferences... ... . Wink wink CSC!

    The key insight is that an eBike is a SYSTEM. You can't just change one thing and expect a free lunch. Battery + BMS + cabling + motor + controller make the system. Changing one thing is only a fraction of the needed changes. All in all, I think the CSC City Slick is a conservative design at a decent price. Expecting more is somewhat disingenuous given the cost of all the integrated components.

    Finally got my original controller upgraded and loving it as most streets around me only have 45mph limit, unless i go further than i'm comfortable with with the stock battery's range. Really just eyeballing the battery chamber, but does anyone know why they didn't just go with a square battery size that could squeeze in like 20-25% more cells? Probably a cost-cutting thing (which i can understand, but it would be nice to get a larger option). Once it's out of warranty, would love to pick someone's brain on a custom battery or @City slacker if you can tell me whether or not the stock battery fits into the glove box and maybe have two batteries on the bike?

    Also, the 2019 city slicker is listed with a 30ah battery on the website. Is this a new battery or have they never updated the original listing's specs?

    Road Slick into work this morning and it was the type of commute I was waiting for. Now that kids are back in school the morning commute is absolute torcher. The 45 MPH Highway was gridlocked and I was only able to hit 30 MPH briefly until the next light. All the small little cities have done nothing to improve traffic flow in fact many have made it worse in an attempt to scare people away. It was not exactly a fun ride but I would rather be on an electric bike in traffic like this then a gasoline bike. Riding or driving anything in traffic like this is like standing in front of a fountain throwing your spare change away. Took me 1.25 hours to go 9 miles to work. Only consumed 14% (100% down to 86%) energy on the commute this morning.

    Also noticed while in ECO mode that ReGen kicked in a lot when I was just creeping a long. Traffic would start moving and I would speed up to 5 or 6 MPH but every time I went off throttle to slow down the ReGen kicked in. I managed to go about 3 miles not loosing any percentage on the power meter. When switching to PWR mode this would not happen. So I would say its fairly important to use ECO mode if you going super slow.

    I think the price isn't very decent considering the same exact bike (without csc stickers) is about $900 direct from China. Just have a look on alibaba.

    Yeah, I've got a few bookmarked on Ali--I thought the bike was manufactured by Zongshen, but since its introduction in China, it has always said "Cineco" on it? Confusing

    I've seen as low as $1000, but with higher minimum orders

    The cheapest I've found for 1-unit orders is $1,325, but that's with a 20Ah lead-acid battery, without (2-3 months) shipping, and without (possibly) a 25% trade-war tariff, so maybe 1325 + 250 (li-ion battery estimate) + 400 tariff + 150 shipping = about 2,100

    Still cheaper, but not as steep a markup as it might seem

    Also, there is value in having a local dealer who stocks spare parts and stands behind their product, as they have done for many of the people on this forum
