Touring on small bikes on back roads is great fun and highly under rated. After a few days of this and you realize that larger bikes are not as much fun and wholly unnecessary.... As long as you stay on those secondary routes.

I also own an F800GS and I’m starting to wonder if the Rally will replace it! I’m not 30 years old anymore. The GS is great on backroads but I wouldn’t enjoy it on the forest roads near Oark. It’s just too heavy now.

How often do you need to go faster than 60-65MPH and for how long?

It really only takes 25hp to see the world, the rest is just wheelspin as they say.... Or in the case of the new superADV class bikes, "Advanced traction control modes"... Which is just an expensive way to get your superbike closer to 25hp again.

I am 5'-7" for reference with short arms. I added 2" Rox adjustable risers and with a pair of ADV boots, I can comfortably stand on the rally for minutes at a time. Before, it was not comfortable.

I'm 5' 5" (165cm) and always ride on adventure boots. Maybe I need bar risers? But the bars are to close to my body. That is the "problem".

The first 2 mods I made:

Knight Design pegs almost an inch lower.


Rox risers up and forward.


Stock the bike doesn’t have enough legroom with a Seat Concepts saddle and the Knight Design pegs problem solved.

Then fit Vario risers which allow you to move UP and AWAY from you...Simples!

The adjustable ones allow you to move the bars forward and back as well as adding rise.

I gotta say the Rox 2" anti vibration risers did wonders for me. My rallys handlebars buzz like crazy on the highway

First long ride from not having a dirt bike in almost 20 years...
Somewhere around Sinnemahoning. Last year was epically wet. We were searching for a way to cross the river but everywhere was too deep.

Having no idea what we were getting into.

At the bottom of the ravine. I laid it over in a stream (out of view). Can only laugh when this happens. Probably the 10th stream crossing on the day and the first time my feet got wet. Probably crossed this stream a dozen more times crawling back out.

BTW, the last pic was when I was readjusting my handguards. I laid it over crossing a log and shattered the throttle under the grip.

Anyone know of an aluminum throttle body that will fit?

There is a video that explains how it works and why it is valuable. Not sure if it only works with G2 throttles.
