. Yak's grazing on the way up to 5260 m/~17.000 ft Wari La ▲ Ladakh ▲ Himalaya . (The Yak is an important animal in Ladakh. It is used for working the fields, threshing the grain, carrying loads, the dung is used for fuel, it is a vital source of milk and cheese (it is rarely used for meat), fur for weaving clothing, carpet, making ropes and bed covers) .
. Rongdo, (~3000 m/~10.000 ft asl), a village in Nubra valley which, like most villages and towns in Ladakh (Indian Himalaya), depends solely on a glacier fed river for irrigation..., since precipitation only occurs in winter as snow amongs the mountain peaks. . (The Nubra valley was historically important as it lies on a old caravan/trade route between India/Ladakh and Central Asia and Tibet, with 10.000 horses and camels yearly taken the route over the mountains, until about 1950, when it was closed, because of the Chinese/Indian and Pakistan/Indian situation at the time) .
And I agree, it's quite educational and really cool to see places I know I will never go. Thanks for sharing.
. The setting of Padum (3665 m/~10,000 ft asl, center left), the only town in the Zanskar valley ▲ Himalaya . (Zanskar, with a population of 13,800, is cut off from the rest of the world for 6 month of the year because of snow on the passes. The only exception is a hazardous walk up the frozen Zanskar river in the month of January and February) .
