The biggest issue would be if they can find cheap hubs which fit. If hubs run $300-500 each there's no way $5-600 wheelsets are possible.

Have you owned either personally to know exactly what those compromises are in comparison to a 390 adv that has yet to be even sat on?

Neither of the two you mentioned are race bikes nor would they be classified as true enduro bikes.

$8995 MSRP includes center stand, bash plate, engine guard, fog lights and rear rack which would cost you a few hundred on other modern bikes.

Unfortunately this is it for US Europe has other options

Tusk is a complete wheel. New hubs are built to OEM specs. They are not trying to buy some cheap hubs and build wheels.

You then transfer over your rotors, rings, sprocket, cush washer etc. This saves $ as these are all good to go.

Come on Cyclo atleast read the info before you assume and post.

it was a long time coming the 390 ..a very long time

iwere gonna type some stuff ....but all i can really say after all the hype /photoshops and speculation from the last 8 years about what the worls number one off road specialist manufacturer was gonna do im shocked somewhat

it was always billed as the one that sat bettween the 450/500 enduro class and the tall and heavier 640 adv

anyway im dissapointed .....sure you cant ride stats ..but they are pretty dam depressing ones in my eyes :dirtdog

thats it really peace out :beer

390 has option of QS and Recluse auto-clutch that 310 does not. The 2 together are awesome for comfort. Nothing to do with off-roading, just plain comfort and fun for long distance and traffic situations.

But no ABS. Obviously no TC. Tube tires etc. There is a small but very vocal anti-safety-nanny community that makes it look like there are thousands of them but reality is that most people would rather have ABS, TC, etc.

Have you read it yourself? Then where exactly it says they build hubs to OEM specs by themselves?

AliExpress/eBay are full of cheap Chinese MX hubs; hubs for big bikes? not so much. All wheelsets RM offers are for dirt bikes; the ones you can build yourself from Ali parts. It isn't rocket science you just need a truing stand and a bit of patience.. it's been a while since I've laced wheels.

What do you mean "no ABS"? one global model bike is built to comply Euro4 hence has "off-road ABS" switchable in the back on the fly.

And why exactly would you need TC on 54hp dualsport based adventure bike? 690 Enduro doesn't have TC either.. neither T700. AT owners owners can tell you how much pain is to get TC dialed. And some 1190 owners literally broken their back when TC kicked in.. but if TC on 39hp bike is your thing this bike isn't for you.

And tubes? Name me bikes with tubeless rims and MSRP less than $10k besides DL650XT

I looked at the Superdual at the local dealer. No ABS. You can see pics on their web site too. I did before posting. No ABS ring.

    2019 690 Enduro R has TC.

The Japanese are dragging their feet on electronics. Modesty and frugality. I am from Asia, I understand. That's why T700 is so basic. They should offer them as options for people who want and are willing to pay. Honda finally realized with the new AT.

Plenty of sub-10k Adv biles have tubeless rims with 19/17 setup. CB500X, 310GS and this new 390Adv. Perhaps you meant only for spoked rims but then you should have been explicit about it. Anyway, tubeless conversion is not that difficult with the 3M Extreme tape.

What's funny about this thread is how much criticism is levied on something no one has even ridden.

I agree that the 390 Adventure does beat the G310GS in many areas.
The electronics package is much better with stock traction control, and multi-channel Cornering & Enduro ABS.
The BMW only gives you the option of On or OFF on the basic 2-channel ABS.

As to the suspension, I am quite sure that the KTM is going to have a far better stock suspension over the Baby-GS.
All the Beemer offers is a 5-detent rear preload adjustment.
The KTM is coming stock with both Compression & Rebound at the front, and at the back it offers Rebound in addition to preload adjustment.

However, I disagree with you about weight.
Based upon the published dry weight and adding the weight of that 3.8 gallons of fuel (and perhaps engine oil and other fluids), I actually think that the 390 Adventure is going to be around the same weight or even up to 10 pounds HEAVIER than the G310GS when both bikes are fully fueled/oiled in stock trims.
Also note that the G310GS comes stock with the rear luggage rack, so there is another 3-5 pounds or more added to the 390 if you want a rack on it.

Not to mention that there is quite a bit of room for weight reduction on the G310GS.
This is what I have managed on mine already:

    5.500 - Lithium Battery
    3.780 - Left Pass.Peg Mount
    3.920 - Right Pass.Peg Mount
0.235 - Left Frame Paint Guard @ footpeg
0.255- -Right Frame Paint Guard @ footpeg
0.215 - Left Battery Side Cover
0.215 - Right Battery Side Cover
0.475 - Chrome Muffler End Cap Trim
    -------
    14.595 - Total weight reduction

I was able to drop almost 8 pounds just by removing the heavy steel rear peg brackets from the G310GS.
From what I can see, it appears that those brackets are welded to the 390 subframe. And even if they are removable, the KTM rear peg brackets are significantly smaller because they are just a short drop from the subframe.
I was also surprised how much that useless fluff of a chrome end cap on the muffler weighs.

    YMMV

I don't know what and where you looked; I own Superdual put 13.6k on it in 3 months: there's ABS on this bike.

Does any of those bikes "CB500X, 310GS and this new 390Adv" have rims? They have cast wheels IIRC

The SuperDual also comes with a pretty tall stock seat height.
    SADDLE HEIGHT 898 mm = 35.4 inches

    KTM 390 Adventure = 33.6 inches
BMW G310GS = 32.9 inches stock (-.75" low seat avail.)
    Versys-X300 = 32.1 inches
    CB500X = 31.8 inches
    Himalayan = 31.5 inches

IMO the criticism is due to the moto not meeting some thread contributor expectations. They may feel let down by the introduction of the 390 ADV from KTM. By no means does that mean it won't be a fantastic moto for others or a stand out in the class it represents. KTM makes a variety of different dirt toys for all types of desires. Pick one you like or another from a different manufacture, there are many choices.

I'd like to see KTM make a ton of revenue off the 390 adventure and develop similar (lightweight, smaller engine) motos in the future. A profitable company will be better positioned to continue with innovations and lead the competition in the industry.

I do agree in most circumstances about preconceived opinions, but could one (or you) draw a fairly accurate assessment about the dirt capability and intent of design of a moto with 5 to 5.2 inches of suspension travel (after proper sag setting), shod with a 19/17 wheel set and weighing in near ~380lbs wet? My assumption is that one that has considerable experience on a multitude of various motos with 30,000 plus dirt miles might be pretty accurate with their opinions, at least for their own intended use.

Well and 2" more of travel.

With regards to seat height the seat on SD is narrower and feels slightly lower than one on 2009 G650 X-Country which IIRC 33.1".

EDIT: also 898mm is a suspect because they list it for both T and X which should be higher with 21/18" wheels and the seat has changed but the measurement didn't get updated. Unfortunately my bike is wintering in Central Asia I can't give you exact measurement. I'm 29" inseam so for me this is an important issue.

I think you press the indicator switch inwards (moves left and right too) and the hazards come on. No separate switch i think

When I say oem specs, I mean they fit like OEM parts would. The oem parts you move over fit just as well on these new hubs.

I asked them about the wheels and they have them built all in the same factory in Taiwan with quality sourced local parts and parts the factory makes. Like GPX, RM ATV is choosing very specific high quality parts to build a complete wheel.

They are not shopping on Alibaba for the cheapest shit, mainland China crap parts to stake their reputation on.

I wanted you to read their spec sheet on materials to understand what the spec and how they build up. Obviously that was lost in translation.
