It's that time of year again. Reserved Entry has opened for the 2020 Sandblast Rally.

This race looks like some fun. Even has an adv class for rally noobs like me.

I've been meaning to come to the rally for years but never make it. This time I signed up to work radio so now I have to go. My list of radios was kind of sad, may have to make an effort to fix that before the rally.

you should go and take Bill’s class beforehand. But also know that the ADV class is not a thing despite being up there and it also doesn’t matter that it’s not a thing. You will still get to race and have fun.

This race is a ton of fun. My favorite part is resetting your trip meter before each stage: because there's 4-14 miles of unrestricted lunacy when the clock says GO!

Yeah, and after sweep is done you get to race!

It's a great time with great people. Do it!

My bike is still in several piles in the shop. I'm still hopeful but I'm not signing up until I have a running bike.

I'm out this year. I will miss everyone. And the racing.

Committed to V2R?

This has been on my radar for a few years now. Only a 3 hour drive from me. I've raced enduros and harescrambles but want to try rally. Trying to get a sense of cost, looks like:

$130 if Bill does a clinic
$45 NASA membership
$65 NASA license
$290 entry fee before Jan 18

So easily a $500 weekend? Plus I need to find a bike because two strokes aren't allowed. I have a XT500 I'm building but that probably won't be ready until next year.

Add lodging (which could be as cheap as $0...) and event specific bike prep (tires, etc) but yes your math is right. Definitely more $ than a weekend of enduro, but I feel it's worth it. Especially if they provide another bike event this year.

Because I'm not sure I can stay away from the great weather and seeing you lovely humans, I think I'm going to make the trek.

However I won't be competing as that will save my already thin wallet well over $500 dollarbucks. I'm thinking of giving back and volunteering. I'll most likely stay at H Pooper Brown campground.

Working on fitness. Just started riding a bicycle. It's miserable. Wtf do people do this for again? Don't they know about dirt bikes? Let's see how it goes a little longer before saying I'm committed.

Rally is fantastic. It's so fun and the people are so good. I mean, other than me but I won't be there this year so you're golden.

Also include cost of transportation. Less if you live in SC like you but a lot more if you're coming from wisconsin for example. And the medical if you've never done it before.

I'd run new tires, personally so that's another $150, but they're not done on just the one day so at least you can keep running them. Plus depending on the lights your bike has and how fast you are I'd seriously consider some extra lighting, although that's also a one time expense.

Definitely 100% take bill's class if you can. If I lived down there, I'd take the class every year even if I wasn't racing.
