Guy bought my 61 Toyota Land crusher after it dropped a valve, and was going to drop a V8 into it. Found out later, he just pulled the piston and drove it as a 5 cylinder.
I mean, how many cylinders do you really need? My Speed Triple gets on just fine and it's only got three
He said it ran a little rough. The '61 Land Crusher engine was supposedly built on blueprints from a Chevy 6.
Ok we're clear how ridiculous this is. "Just pulled a piston"? I mean and then also blocked off the intake to keep from filling the crankcase with fuel. And then there's balance, I mean you've removed the piston and con rod right? But you've got a motor that was balanced for their presence. So that's gonna cause havoc with the balance. I dunno... I mean I've seen people do dumber things but shee-it that sounds like a fabrication.
Yea, I've wondered about that as well. Remove the piston and con rod then somehow block off the intake and exhaust. He said he used it for hunting around Savannah and that while it ran a little rough (no kidding) it got the job done. I'm guessing with the rockers removed and the broken valve replaced it would close things enough.
He'd have to block off the oiling passages on the crank. So, cut the con rod in half and bolt it back on to block the oil. Then, just pull the rocker arms and wait for the next failure.
My father about 50 years ago bought an extremely beat dump truck when he was building their house. It had a Y block and one of he pistons had a hole in it when he got it so he just pulled the rocker arms and pushrods and it ran plenty good enough to haul the gravel and fill dirt.

I was in my 4 cyl TJ which is slow but those guys are in a different time zone, they had to resort to the shoulder for almost any grade not to hold up traffic.
