The sap just started running today. Pulled the first 56 litres and they're on the boil! I just wish I had more cooking capacity.
Babar! Where the heck did you find that! Flashbacks to my childhood for sure. I don't think I have the book(s) anymore, but I think I might have Tintin somewhere... 2d1c
Tintin, Asterix and Babar. Great stuff all of them. The man behind Asterix just died from Covid a few days ago, he was in his 90's.
Pick me for a skull and crossbones mask!! Hope all is well on the right side of the country, it's pretty weird to the left! When I get there I'm staying in the Punk room............love the Punk stuff!! Cheers
If I make it there in the near future I’ll make sure to check it out . Punk Rock Room for me as well . Maybe I’ll donate my Ramones (saw them live 12 or 15 times ) bowling shirt to it . Don’t think it fits me anymore . I know the summer is uncertain but I’m not ready to give up on my plans yet . Good luck and hope you do open this summer.
Cool, I only caught the Ramones once when Social Distortion opened for them at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley in '92. Not sure that T is still in good enough shape for the collage but we'll see. I'd love to add your bowling shirt to some art if you make it out here.
Soooo...yesterday was a bit of a day spending 9 1/2 hours hanging out by the boil. A bit of this every little while the scene doesn't change much Our setup works but is far from efficient as $25 worth of propane, 9 1/2 hours and 60 litres of sap only gave us this much syrup. We have plans to go to a 3 burner portable stove and a stainless steel pan for the top that will be about 2' x 4' which will give far more surface area for much more efficient cooking. With any luck we'll have it by next season. I'm guessing we won't be able to cook down everything we tap this year as we cooked down about 600 litres last year but much on a wood fired setup. The other option is building a rocket stove setup which would be good as we have tons of wood to burn so that part would be free. We'll see.
All of those featured in my growing up. Tintin most so, as there was frequent occurrences of cool cars, motorcycles, and aircraft. The two Moon editions and Flight 714 were among my favourites! :) My wife is a talented seamstress - so if I find some Tintin-themed fabric, and it looks like masks are more critically required in everyday use, then I know what I'll ask her to make for me ... :) Great place you have there. When the time comes to do a cross-country trip on my moto, this looks like a great place to visit! Great job on the themed rooms. I hope it does very well for you after all this virus stuff blows over.
Yeah, Tintin fabric would be cool. I went to the comic museum in Brussels and it was highly featured. Thanks for the feedback, come on out. life size
Forgive the minor Tintin diversion..... When I first travelled to Singapore, I was surprised that they had a Tintin store, in the middle of the old Chinatown district. Old crappy iPhone photo I took: Store website with more pics: https://tintin.sg/ A very cool little shop for a Tintin fan. Boy, that syrup looks good. An old army buddy of mine is making noises of retiring back out to his native NFLD and doing a B&B somewhere I think north of St. John’s.
I'm at work again and it's a long hitch with 2 weeks isolation in a hotel in f=Halifax before a 4 week hitch on a boat decommissioning rigs off Sable Island. The missus has been busy... The start of her project, this bed is the right side of the U seen earlier in this thread next to the one with the wood around it. This is an amazing amount of rocks she's moved! A lot of rearranging to make it strong, pretty and level I am super impressed with her hard work, potatoes will be going in here.
