If you are tearing up heads, you are doing it wrong and you have opposing installation techniques per your pics.

The first is near proper as the recessed top portion should be brought up to flush, tightened and then the opposite bottom tightened up to specified torque leaving some gap. The second pic is opposite of what you want.

Tighten the top ones no more than 3/4 to 1 turn past snug. Then tighten the bottom ones no more than 1-1/2 to 2 turns past snug. Anything else is too much and will just tear up hardware as you have learned.

    Good installs to ya!

Looks much better now and its good to know that there's some gap expected at the bottom. Thanks!

I was hoping someone would make plastic engine covers for the AT but I've never seen any.

Hey there AT guys, hoping someone can help with my noob question here. A friend suggested I get the Camel Brace for the right foot peg support... looking at their site there appears to be two versions, a standard and a plus, the standard being out of stock. https://camel-adv.com/products/africa-twin-camel-brace not sure which one I need here. Also I'm struggling to envision just how this will bolt on, looks like this will just wrap around the exhaust pipe? what does it bolt to on the bottom side? and I've got larger pegs installed already, and a Hepco & Becker front skid plate, not sure if I'll see any interference issues here. some pics for fun... thanks for any comments.

The Standard and Plus do the same job except the Plus is a bit longer so it protects the exhaust pipe behind the peg.

No issues with the HB skid plate or footpegs.

As far as where it mounts, watching the intro video will answer that far better than I ever could with text.

Anyone successfully installed HDB Hand Guards on their Twin? Swapped my bars out with the Protaper Adventure (Not High) Tips or tricks appreciated. Saw BigDog made an extension to make his work.
    Thanks

See my reply in the CRF1000L Owners thread. HDB makes a set to fit.

Does the foot peg brace fit the 2020 CRF1100L DCT model? Also is it compatible with the SW Motech sump guard?

KDouble, here are pics of my bars. Bolted right on. They also went right on to my buddy's '18 Adventure.

Looks like you're running a Zumo 395/595 up on your Camel brace. What did you get to mount the GPS mount to the brace?

That's for my Garmin Montana, and it's on a Gadget Guy mount on the Camel brace. I don't know if Gadget Guy is still around, but he had some very nice CNC bits. If not, there are alternatives I'm sure.

The 2020 has cast iron footpeg mounts so there is no need to brace them. The 2016-17 AT had brittle cast aluminum mounts.

I still have my original Camel Brace in it's box, but I never installed for one reason or another. Now, the Plus looks great! I'll have to get that one and hang it the next time the bike is on the rack. Heading off for a big ride and hope to survive without the brace!

Being a bit lazy here. I have 2019 ATAS DCT and am not liking the motor crash protection stock. I am a little worried the stock top crash bars are not up to protecting the tank even in a soft drop.

What is the smart, inexpensive fix for this? I am cheap but know that a broken motor would be crazy expensive. Little ticked at Honda for the sorta cheap/stupid things they have done on their top of the line bike.

    Thanks

I went with Hepco & Becker bracing bow to reinforce the stock light bar on my ATAS and also the lower crash guards for more protection without looking kludgy. After a tipover turning around on a steep hill, no damage other than a tiny scuff in the Barkbuster handguard as the H&B lower guard took the impact, the light bar didn't move at all. I'll replace the stock skid plate at some point once I figure out what works with what I'm running.

OK, so you're cheap but you're giving Honda a hard time for being cheap? Economically speaking, price is what you pay but value is what you get so best to not hold the small coins so close to your eyes you can't see the large bills further out ... buy quality bars and bash plate for engine and radiator/plastics protection, barkbusters, etc. and you'll get better value and be ahead of the game in the long run.

AltRider equipment was my choice for my ATAS.

    Good pragmatic choices to ya!
