Virtue Signalling: To take a conspicuous but essentially useless action ostensibly to support a good cause but actually to show off how much more moral you are than everybody else.

I live in a small town (population <10k) on Lake Simcoe (Ontario). Just yesterday while out on my daily mountain bike ride I noticed a car from Massachusetts and an RV from Florida that weren't at their respective locations a day previously. Has the border now been opened to property owners from the US?

The only thing worse than virtue signalling is signalling your virtues by complaining about someone else virtue signalling.

As a term it needs to be banned for overuse, particularly by passive aggressive virtue signallers such as yourself.

I'm starting to think that people believe the masks they are wearing are protecting them. That's my guess given the media hyped fear and anxiety that so many are taking in. Like CBC headlines - CANADA TOPS 100k REPORTED CASES!!!!!!!!!!! No mention of how many of the 100k have since recovered which is around 63.5k. With 8000 deaths to include those who died of COVID and those that died with COVID. This means Canada has about 29k active cases and statistically under 6%, or around 1740 people, require hospital care. Statistically 35% or a little over 600 are persons over the age of 60 and if US studies hold true for the Canadian experiences, 70% or 1218 of the 1740 have underlying health conditions.

Looking at the numbers broken down and suddenly I'm left asking WTF? We've allowed governments extraordinary powers, spending, limiting freedoms and so forth, we've let businesses die and tanked our economy and we're not done yet. Crazy.

I went ON to MB and back to ON yesterday ( by car to airport in Winnipeg)
No indication of anything different than normal at the border now.

Last week rode across top of Lake Superior and back.
Found a private campground for the tent by Wawa.
Had access to all facilities (I guess showers were a grey area bonus) because as lady said they are all in same building and she had no intention of coming in to make sure 2 old guys were not illegally using showers.

Well I would have placed a challenge to her then and there!!

Took a Sunday ride into MB and looped thru northern part and home last night
Thru Whiteshell-Gimli-Dauphin-Riding Mountain and back south and home.
Had to motel it in Gimli due to lack of campgrounds and tornado warnings in a storm heading from Brandon.

Observations in MB—
--No issues with anyone that we were from ON
--Hotel guy didn’t flinch renting to us but seemed aware we were from safe part of ON.( some imaginary line somewhere east of Thunder Bay)
—Most (not all) restaurants had some limited inside seating
—When it’s 95f/36c degrees you need lots of water.
$2.60 for a 500ml bottle of water is price gouging IMO but I still love MB

yup Thats why I ride in Mexico every winter 500ml water 40 cents.

If all I had was warm water in my panniers, I'd probably pay $2.60 for a bottle of cold water. Someone needs to invent a small solar powered fridge.
