I guess it is "stealth" until it isn't... Stealth camping transitions to simply illegal camping once you are seen...just like a stealth aircraft becomes a targeted aircraft once it is seen... This topic is becoming philosophical rather than practical
Correct. You either stealth camp or you camp. Either is fine, really. There’s just a huge difference.
Well on May 15-16 did it near Lake Isabella, when covid-craziness was winding down but not quite down yet. 1-st night was 2 of us at a campground with a closed gate (rode in through the rocks). There were people there who walked in the same way but their cars were exposed on the road so they didn't stay overnight... or had no intention to do so to begin with. We chuckled about the fact that we both have orange bikes and it's about the worst imagineable color to try to conceal. 2-nd night was about 100 meters from a public day use beach, semi-concealed by trees and shrubs. A couple folks likely saw me there during the day but didn't care. Closer to sunset I was left more or less alone. The wind was pretty strong and annoying throughout the night. Spray-painted my bike matte black soon afterwards btw, heh. Should've done so first thing upon buying it, but somehow hesitated until it became a real concern for a couple nights. What would be your thoughts upon seeing a full-black KTM, gents? :-D
Be sure to use radar and light absorbing paint so enemy (police and property owners) radars and lights can't detect you while "stealth" camping... Is it "stealth" if you are hiding in plain sight?
For me, stealth camping is camping in a place where the normal weekend camper may not camp. I have slept on park benches, in plain sight of everyone and I think that qualifies as stealth.
I think that is a perfectly legitimate form of stealth camping. What you really need is a tent in dayglo colours and a colourful paintjob on the bike, that creates an instant SEP field (Somebody Else´s Problem). If you 'just camp' and no one sees you, was it actually 'stealth' camping? No one saw me here..... But they didn't see me when I camped behind the town water tank either. Same thing? What about the time I rode through New Mexico until dark, parked just off the road, threw down my bag and crashed? I woke up in the morning surrounded by a dozen cows. Stealth or not? Actually, who invents these terms anyway? Adventure bike? Dual Sport? 80/20, 50/50? stealth camp vs camp? And who appointed any of us to be the arbiter of motorcycling terms? .........shu
Maybe so, but sleeping on a park bench, or behind the church, or in someone's backyard strikes me as much more adventurous than just camping out in the woods. .................shu

the hammock pic was absolutely stealth! the dirt road was about another 75 away and you couldn't see shit from there. 2 dudes on quads or side by sides came by at around 2am and stopped. I couldn't see their lights, but I could hear them. Kind of freaked me out a bit.
I just call it free camping. Any pictures you posted have removed the stealth element....we all see you now!
