Thank you! I'm coming through Bonneville Salt Flats in a few days, I was thinking about saving the South (Moab etc) until the fall when its cooler. I was thinking Id camp in Ashley National Forest, but if you know of any especially good spots I'd love to hear em! Also, if you know of a mechanic who might have the time to give the bike a once over - I'm struggling to find one who isnt booked out until end of Oct. Im due for a value adjustment, fluid check, and might get the pads and belt replaced if I can find a spot that can order parts. Let me know if you know anyone who can (and wants) to deal with an old suzuki!

The route is suuper vague, I usually just wait until I arrive at a state, bust out the butler, see what roads are highlighted and do my best to hit most of them. I'd like to go to North Georgia (and Atlanta depending on the C-19 situation). May reach out when I get closer!

Definitely save the southern portion for cooler weather. It will be hot enough here in the northern section (98-100F for the next few days).
RMATV/MC is right here near me, and if they have stuff in stock it gets to my door in 1-3 days. You might try One Kick Moto to see if he has availability. My friend has used him before, and the guy seems to work on just about everything. I don't mind trying to help with the work myself. My garage is uninsulated (so hot as hell), but it would be free.

Ashley National Forest and Flaming Gorge area are beautiful, but I haven't spent a ton of time there yet.

"Im due for a value adjustment,..." Good luck with that. Do you need a good guru? Looking forward to hearing how it goes. :-)

Jonz is a great guy as you found out--------friend of mine for years.
Glad he could help you with the tire.
    He's quite a guy----hits Baja all the time and is a tri-athlete.

haha I have the feeler gauges, the manual and a list of instructions from my mechanic (who thinks I should be able to do it no problem)....im just not that confident. I had been hoping to just book her in somewhere along the road but we'll see what it comes to.

If you're not afraid of the crowds, you should consider diverting over to Sturgis in a couple weeks to experience the rally. You'll certainly collect some interesting stories and characters.

ummmm.... re-read your post #82: "Im due for a value adjustment, fluid check, and might get..." Note: this is quite different a valve adjustment. Not sure how useful those feeler gauges are gonna be.....

oh come on flei, you can't really be THAT literal - especially when it comes to a misspelling that was more likely auto-corrected by a computer than intentionally written verbatim

For Atlanta just ride through during the day and have lunch at The Varsity. Then take Peachtree STREET (all caps because there are like 130 different variants of Peachtree in Atlanta) north and eventually you'll go right past my house. It'll be awhile before you're here but will help out any way I can. Have tools, tire changer and a good network of people and machinery in the area.

Northern Illinois checking in! You need help with stuff just let me know. Also I recommend sticking to the western side of our state as that's the driftless region. Wayy better than the flatlands in the center.

Welcome to ADV, @Spindr! Outstanding start for what should be an epic ride report; subscribed and along for the ride.

Should you need a place to do some wrenching, change a tire, or take a shower, the Casita on Manzanita has hosted a number of riders over the years. We share our house with a really sweet German Shepherd and a couple of corvids, so dog hair and feathers are a fact of life here. I also make a really good red sauce (with only a little bit of dog hair in it) should you care to stay for dinner.

M and I are in Reno, so feel free to drop by on your return loop. You should also know that there is a wonderland of riding all along the spine of the Sierras, and northern Nevada has some really cool places to see that are well off the beaten path.

I have a very good friend who lives in New Zealand. His name is David. Do you know him?? :D

Wow! A beautiful woman posts a few pictures with a motorcycle and the next thing you know 97 folks are following the thread and filling up 5 pages of posts! Impressive!:-)
Please be careful. This isn’t New Zealand. And the bike is overloaded!

Obviously it was a typo: valve/value. I thought it was pretty funny to play around with it but I guess everyone is too busy leg humping to catch the joke. :dunno
