After some more googling, it turns out there's actually three different partnumbers that all use the same picture. Guess I'll just stick with the safe option and go with a pair of bike specific Barkbusters.
@Snake Oiler I'd love some HDB guards, but I've only found one shop selling them in Europe so far. They charge 260 euro, shipped. I have a hard time justifying that kind of money for a set of handguards. I'll try to email HDB for a shipping quote and see if I can order some directly from him. Do you have the "Ultimate" set with the topclamp or the "Nexgen", that mounts on the bars? Is one better than the other?
The Ultimate. Tell him Snakeoiler sent you. Don't think that will help but I'll bought three sets for different bikes now. He emailed me a couple times back a while ago. They were moving operations to a new building. And someone said they didn't make them for the X anymore. He told me that wasn't true. I also have to tell you, folks have been bitching about lack of customer service as of late. I can't vouch for that myself tho. You are right that is a lot of money for them, but they are the strongest I'd ever seen or used.
I don't know if the decomp lever was updated or not. And yeah, I'm thinking it's time for a valve check/adjustment on X. Thanks
With a short period where I tried a clutch-slipping synthetic I've been running Castrol 4T 20W-50 in all of my 4 stroke bikes. Never a hint of problems. Then again, a cold day here is 40 F.
I switched to Amoil Dirt bike oil a couple years ago when they first came out with it. Straight 50w I believe but anyways it's been doing a great job. No more over temp and within the first ten miles the motor noticably was quieter. I mentioned it to @Wyocrawler, he gave it a try and had the same experience. I guess they reformulated their oil specific to wet clutches in dirt bikes. Which the oil really takes a beating in cause of all the slipping that is required for trail and trial running. Just my two pennies on oil. Please don't ask about tires
I have the Storm buckets and thought they might be to warm for proper summer, but last July they worked just fine when I went down to Bosnia and Croatia and the temps were 38-40C. My plan was to get a set of VPS and use the Storm in spring and fall, but after last summer I'm not going to bother. https://barkbusters.net/products/
There was a recall. But I think they are identical to the naked eye. https://www.f650gs.crossroadz.com.au/FaultSymptoms.html
Butters You are the man! It was the throw out bearing pushed out of position. I removed the circlip and then the rack reseated the bearing. The clutch and shifting work very nicely now. Thanks so much Blackalac
It's not but close cousin. Aprilia engine has yamaha 5-valve head and a few other mods same mill as XT660 Tenere
Didn't mean to say the engines were identical, but thought everything below the valves are the same internally. The outside covers look a little different here and there. The RSV is another beast completely though.
I know they are not the same engine in any way. Single vs V Twin. I was under the impression that KTM v twin was designed by a former Rotax engine designer. I was assuming my problems were related to a insufficient flow of oil to the clutch. I was mistaken, however the absence of a "wet" clutch is because the clutch sits over the sump and the clutch/engine oil almost immediately drains to the sump.
Don't think it'd matter much any unless he/she specifically designed the 652cc engine that was used by BMW, Aprilia and Bimota (anyone else? Can't remember), and even then the engine is 30 years old. Technology has evolved. Rotax were an light aircraft engine specialist originally (probably why Bombardier bought them) and they were also big in snowmobile engines I believe, none of which has a clutch afaik
Jawa, and I seem to recall that the motor was originally developed for snowmobiles. There is the full list buried in the thread, probably somewhere between posts 400 and 600.
Hey folks need a little life here! I've been thinking about parting with some spare stuff I have. Don't have the space for it mainly anymore since I moved in the hauler. Getting tired of moving things around really. So before I post in flea I'm going to ask here first. I have the full set of the stock plastic, both sides, tail, front fender and headlight cowling with the headlight. How's $350 for the the package deal and I'll split shipping. And I'll be heading cross country the end of October NM to PA, it could be possible to meet up for the exchange also if it's not too far off track.
