@tripodtiger mate on my road bikes I run 41psi rear and 38psi front, checked before a ride when the tyres are cold. Not sure if I have ever checked the manual for the correct pressures.
Check out the manual for the bike and reset all the suspension setting back to standard and go from there; although, I think you may need a little bit more preload front and rear for your size.
I might have to cruz around and check out the new beast....

Mates young bloke has a Sprint all tracked out, I tried riding it. Yeah nah. Same thing tripletrumpy, a fly landed on the clip-on and it fell over into the corner. The young bloke just laughed, said I needed to learn how to ride. Not it, just stopped at ride.

Yep I had an RS instead of a ST, I thought it handled crap at first but put some aggresive Pirellis on and it made a lot of difference. I reckon they are a bit like a VFR, an underated sports tourer at the right price. No Tuono in the corners but I still tried it at the track and it's (a lot) more capable than me.

The DRz is finally back on the road after more than 2 years parked in the corner of the shed waiting for me to fix it. Re-registered it yesterday and took it for a quick spin today and it is going great so now I just need to refit the touring gear so it's ready to start traveling again.

Have been thinking of trying out a couple of the Enfields when I get some spare time as they seem to be pretty good value for money and the shop is basically just down the road from us. Also many of them sit a bit lower so thought it could be an option for Kel down the track if she decides she wants something with a bit more get up and go than the XT225. So with that in mind i was thinking of heading up to Wagga on Sunday to give the old XJ900 a run and maybe catch up to say G'day.

I'll be out i the morning, with the classic club. I've got a 2.30pm slot on the Himalayan. If there is one available, I may try and get a run on one of the 650s.

The front feels pretty bad. Pre-load is wound in to about 1cm of thread proud. It wants to stand up over bumps in curves. Dobbo's recommended tyre pressures have helped general round town steering though. Need to take it for a longer run, of course. Some mountain roads might be nice. It's got Bridgestones fitted. Wider tyres than I've ever used. Bump steer is noticeable. I think the forks have a slight twist but, I think that with everything. I reckon my left arm is slightly shorter than my right.

Problem with that is it takes me away from working on the Tiger. I got the swing arm mounted and the steering head cones in yesterday arvo. Tried to freeze the lower bearing on to the steering stem, didn't work like I hoped. Take it to the engineering shop and have it pressed on. Next is to install teh bearings and seals into the suspension linkage. Hope that goes smoothly. I've got threaded rod etc. Need to find correct size sockets as I didn't keep the old bearing cases when I had them removed. Maybe i should just have them pressing to too, do away with the anxiety of getting it wrong.

@Tridifferentsettings have you set the sag and does it feel like both ends have some damping? How do the steering head bearings feel - too tight, too loose, notchy?

If I did head up that way it would have been in the morning and as I said I can try out the Enfields any time so might leave my trip up that way for another time when you are about. But i am keen to hear your thoughts on the Himalayan and by the way the Sprint looks nice .

I read somewhere the CFMOTO 650 mentioned as an alternative to a Royal Enfield in the cheap bike market. Anyone know anything about them?

No, I am not shopping. If I was, at this price point, I would buy another DR650.

More or less a Kawasaki 650 clone, engine anyway. Seem OK, although not ridden by me as yet. I did buy a CFMoto quad last year and been very happy with it to date. Not quite Yamaha or Honda fit and finish, but good enough, and heaps cheaper. They do have a relationship with KTM if that means anything, and the 500cc engine in my quad has KTM looks if nothing else.

Triumph design engineers, in their wisdom, fitted a myriad of bearings and seals into the swingarm & linkage on the T400 Tiger et al (carb models form the '90s). The seals are little pricks - hard plastic outer ring that is, be necessity, just larger than the holes they fit into. Being rigid, I get the impression it's a case of do your best.
Edit - thinking about the seals I took out, looks like that may be how they are fitted ex factory.

Anyway, the swingarm pivot was no drama, except for the third hand, someone cut off me when I was young, that I could now use.
I turned my attention to the dog bone mounts. Each side, a pair of needle rollers between the bastard seals, inner sleeve and the through bolt/nut.
And the outer seal on both sides is recessed in a tube under the swingarm - maybe 30mm.
17mm socket was the chosen drift.
Lined it up and smacked them in.
One side assembled but, the other side there is a drama.
Cutting the story shortish again, one seal went in too far. Maybe 3mm.

Left side the bearing sleeve is pushed out into the breeze, mud, dust, dirt. Of course, it wouldn't line up with the linkage like that either.



Just a couple of mm too far. The bugger wont pull out either. Not for me anyway.

Why? Because there is no stop for the bearings or the seals. Presumably, Triumph make a special tool to insert these bastards so you don't end up with my result.

Come Tuesday, I'll be seeing the engineer to have them pressed out and replaced. Shit bugger bum bitch piss cock fart.
And I thought, 'they are just seals, no drama.'

Got what I reckon are the final layers of fibreglass into the nose cone too. Clean it up and paint it black.
Clean up the headlights and mounts and paint them black too. Job for 'ron.


I've watched a few wideos on the Himalayan. I don't expect to be 'wowed'. Let you know what I can from a 10 or 15 minute ride.

Given the specs it's hard to see one being a cure for erectile dysfunction.
