Not much happening with this thread... I'll step up again with a posting.

I mentioned before about taking it easy with the new pacemaker. Hit the trails some at the 7th & 8th month after the implant. I found my self still going places with the XR400 that I likely should not go as a "Old Guy" with a chunk of iron barely under the skin. So I jumped out and purchased a new ride... or new to me anyway! I'm kinda stuck on Honda's so I'm still riding Red! However, this ride is now a much more limited and /or restrained mount, or that was my intention at this point.
I was looking for a ride that had lot's of Worthy Farkles already in place by the original owner. Soooo, This little 2017 CRF250l Rally followed me home one day. It already had some of the known suspension weaknesses addressed with RaceTech & Ohlin and a few performance adjustments with FMF, K&N and EJK, etc... So I'm now riding a true Dual Sport or as us old-timers called them an Enduro Model. Not a modified dirtbike made street legal.

Still working on making it "Mine" with all the cargo I like to carry! But it's coming along. Have taken a few rides and two excursions over 150 miles in length. With the weather cooling now I hope to be trekking more soon.

In her virginal form and getting dirty... she will likely become a very dirty-girl.

I went out for a very short single track ride out of mm4 yesterday. My last ride was 1 May. Had shoulder surgery, 5 months of physical therapy, and three post surgery injections since then. The bike ‘14 KTM 250 XCW, ran great. The shoulder not so much. I did see a big buck and 5 doe wandering the brush. So neat to see those big deer in the desert.

Good to see you out riding, bummer about the shoulder.

Is it a problem that needs to be looked at? Or just need to get it back in shape?

Psycho18th - I feel your pain.
Had my shoulder done in August 2019, therapy until January 2020.
Now, almost 16 months later, it's almost a strong as before. I'd been off my bikes for a long time, sold most of them.
I'm building an R80st in the garage right now and looking for a smaller duel sport for limited use.
I'm 73 years old, not quite ready to give up the sport/hobby, but I have taken a look at how I participated before and how I will participate going forward.
Shoulder surgery is not for sissies, hang in there, continue the therapy, or do the exercises they taught you, things will get better.

Mark, difference in weight between the 250 & your 400?

I hope u feel better. I'd use calisthenics exercises no weights needed.

Cyrill Despres uses some of these training before Dakar Rally.

It gets along plenty fast for me... that 6th gear really makes a difference. I made a 30+ mile pavement run at 60mph seemed to be cruzing nicely with dirt gearing. I'm more concerned about having great fuel range. with the 2.7 gal tank it seems to easily get me 100 miles out and back. and... I can pick it up when need be. Just remember its a 250 hauling just shy of 600 lbs with me and all my possibles. In a few months I'm sure there will be more to talk about.

Yikes... have been down the shoulder-trail before. No amount of PT will get you back in shape! you have to get back to your normal routine and you will eventually be amazed at the changes. Best of luck!

Right at 100 lbs, Tom. However it does not feel overly heavy as I thought it might.

You'r right Mr Spot. lots of first for me. First bike with watercooling, 6th gear, modern headlight and instruments, a decent seat. Hell it even has a fuel gauge, with ample tank size! But... something really surprising is that this is the first bike for me without rimlocks. Yep never had a bike without rimlocks... there are holes in the rims but no locks installed yet... Soon there will be!
The XR400 you could just put it in third gear and roam the desert all day, hardly ever shifting. However you really have to ride this one... there are 6 gears for a reason!

Picking it up becoming a concern for me!
