2019 Electra glide standard

I can use the standard height screen on my Ultra with anything but a full face helmet. It does have the fairing "wings" or whatever the hell they are called but no fork winglets. I tried a shorty screen (like you I enjoy the wind) and hated it with all of my helmets. I then used a low screen that was laying around and it's perfect (for me) with any of my helmets. All three were Harley branded screens. May or may not work for you but just wanted to say the middle of what you tried so far is probably the sweet spot. Unless you like looking through the screen then go high.

I measured what I have as OEM, and it’s 8”

I won’t ride with anything but a full face lid. Too many friends with facial reconstructive surgery.

I ordered an 8” freedom shield in medium grey. Hate to be petty but anything taller than a 8” screen looks like shit to me. Hopefully the screen will be nice and work well. Supposed to act like a 2” taller screen.

Saddle bag crash bar install today after work. Total time from start to finish including running a compression check on a 1930 Ford...... 1hr.

Super straight forward, very easy. Needed a t40, t45, 1/2” and 9/16” socket and wrenches.

pull seat, bags, side covers, take off the muffler bolts in the back, take off the 3 nut/bolt (screw? Torx head = screw?bolt?) combos that hold the saddle bag support on. Slip out the muffler bracket, pop out the rubber piece. Install that stuff into the bars, bolt those loosely to the chrome loops, fit it all to the bike with a dab of blue loc-tite and start all the bolts, then tighten em up.

refit side covers, bags, seat.

easy peasy.

Now, I’ll give ya the skinny on these bars I bought.

got em on eBay. Reviews are good to great. They were ~$150 all in.

Showed up in a plain brown box, no numbers on the bags, no instructions, no country of origin. They’re clearly not HD oem parts.

they fit great, no issues. Maybe they’re seconds, maybe they’re somethin else. The chrome isn’t as lustrous as my OEM front crash bar.

Am I displeased, sorta. On one hand they were cheaper than OEM by a lot, they fit great, and my only gripe is the chrome isn’t as nice. On the other hand, they listed em as HARLEY DAVIDSON, with an OEM part number. So I kinda feel duped.

Are the rear crash bars different on M8 models or is it just that these are aftermarket? Cause they look different on overall shape/coverage.

Ugly, no. What works for one doesn’t necessarily please the other.

it’s like made up plastic women with giant bolt ons and Botox lips. Not my cuppa. But obviously some people like it.

Well, most of the modifications I have made to her have been for comfort at interstate speed. The tall screen didn’t really grow on me until a few thousand miles later.
I gotta admit I am really diggin the saddle bag guards you put on. I looked for some HD ones about a month ago and they were out of stock.

How are the upgraded shocks holding up?

@Traxx I have to say the bars fit perfectly and seem every bit as quality as the OEM bars, BUT, the chrome doesn’t have the pop like HD chrome usually does. That said, wax em up, and they should be fine a long time. I think they’re worth the $150 ish I paid for em. The under bag supports are every bit as quality as HD, they’re exacting down to the welds.


With regard to shocks -

Havent put em on yet. Been slammed at work this week with a couple 13hr days. And no assistance after hours to lend a hand in stabilizing the big girl.

also my bud took his center jack back so i need to get one of those vs balancing it on a 2x4 and a floor jack. I don’t have a belt tension gauge either and don’t wanna fuck that up.

might have my local Indy shop put em on. I don’t know yet.

I've got a couple of the gauges but rarely use them.

The old school method of checking belt tension is to grab and try to rotate the belt. It should go 1/4 turn but not 1/2.

A little loose is better than tight to protect bearings.

I think I haven't seen my rear crash bars for a couple of years since I hung the bar bags on them.

Also is that how your shifter came without the heel shifter? I took mine off but my spacer is on the outside.

my shifter came that way. Spacer on inside. The EGS doesn’t come with a heel shifter, so if you look at say ronnieshd part fiche, you should be able to get the same spacer and move your toe shifter out

Thanks but I got a free chrome spacer for the outside so I guess I'll stick with it. We don't need no stinkin' heel shifters!

33600304 is the spacer part number. I like that the shifter is flush with the edge of the shift shaft.

In theory I wouldn’t mind a heel shifter, but I doubt my size 13’s would be very fitting on the boards with it in place.

I took the heel shifter off of my RK because it limited my foot movement too much for touring. I found it locked my leg into a single position and I'm only a size 10 1/2 foot, so I can only imagine how limiting it is for a big foot.

It lets me slide my foot back for a more mid position when entering the twisties.
