I bet with gearing and tucking head, ebows and knees a 100 mph would be easy. But way outside the mission of the stock bike. Ride one! I could only imagine this bike in the canyons. Uphill you might have to keep momentum and skills. Flat land curves you'll have the biggest grin watching the world go by. Downhill will feel like the bike everyone says they want.

I guess thats the fun. Much like piloting a sidecar on a curvy road with camber changes. And smoothly riding using throttle changes to steer the rig through the turns. True bliss

"A big heavy under powered bike with rv comfort is quite capable in many arenas" is my description. Eye of the beholder is a big part of the experience.

What kind of level? I find the wind protection level piss poor.

I’ve learned that wind protection is a very personal thing. Some like more protection than others. I have a friend who doesn’t like any kind of shield. He likes to feel all the wind.

That said, I agree with @Idahopilot that the wind protection is not enough…for me. I like a taller shield than they provided on the bike, even in the higher position. For me, the wind goes straight in my face and I don’t like that for the kind of riding I do. So I’ll be watching for a taller aftermarket shield.

As for the seat, it IS better than the older models, IMHO. But it still is just a stock seat, and they are usually not the best, to say the least. I will be watching for Seat Concepts to release a seat for it.

You know what they say. Farkling is half the fun of owning a bike. :ricky

I guess compared to which other models of dual sport bikes. Do you have a certain bike that performs more ideal. Kinda interested in the dynamics of the piss poor aspect. I might have a bracket fix to change the angle.

I have mentioned the throttle control. Kinda called it out. But after careful attention, I find the unit flawless in use. Not really into the cool aid, just easy fixes if it exists.

If you like I can experiment with angle changes and lift brackets with stock shield. Some riders have added the deflector also.

So aluminum angle brackets are a worthy product? Thought this day one. Super easy. The shield angle and height can be changed

The seat I only felt 2up after a 100 miles. Not bad.

Im on it. Might not be able sell( because of liability I can give em away without trade or exchange)but Ill post the pics and dimensions. If it works well I can send a set to you. Then some one can take the idea and run with it. Would you think turn knob tightening tilt adjustment is worth implementing. Share your thoughts. Aluminum or steel? Aluminum is easier to proto the radius slot for turn knobs and tilt adjust.

After thinking on it, what may work is just some spacers that angle the top of the windshield forward. Not sure a better solution than a taller shield can be found. And again, because windscreens are such a personal thing, some will like it and some won’t. And maybe just a Laminar Lip would do the trick.

I thought the shield was taken from the ninja 1000. So aftermarket shields might bolt on. Flat stock brackets will relocate the shiel with spacers. Or standatd hardware if the flatstock has a slight dogleg bend. Really simple pieces. The rear hole could be the radius slot for adjustment. Plan on picking up aluminum today or tomorrow. Be a fun project

Where did you hear that? Do you mean the 1000SX? If that’s true, that would be fantastic!

There was a pic someone pointed out I dug for but couldnt find it. The 300 looks close. I think any with the right profile could be drilled to fit the stock brackets.

Well ha the windshield is held on with c-550 wellnuts. Widely available. Might want to stock some. The windshiel screws I could loosen with just the socket bit. Dont know the spec but not tight. The screws have a neoprene? washer. So its definitely well dampened. I played with dimensions in high setting. To get an angle change(which looks good and more rally look) the height would be raised around 1.5in. The mounting hole center is 1.2in. The angle change can be about 10-20° at this height.

The heavy weight of these parts and replacement cost has me pondering the diy trashcan shield the dr/drz riders were doing. It would cost very little and could be modded till its right. I already planned this for the new tw200.

I will still build the raising brackets. I have them drawn out. The dimensions could be raised further even. The trashcan black plastic will be tried too. As no shield which I bet will buffet.

I really only experienced buffeting once or twice on the gen3 and summed it up to gusty conditions. I wonder if this is the culprit. And some taller riders in certain situations truly need a larger or raised stock shield.

I think the shield can be spaced a small amount from the bracket as OUTLAND MOTO suggested. The wellnuts will have some give for slight angle change. Just spacers, rubber washers and longer m5 screws. I like this. Anyone can do it without machine or fab tools. Might try this first in high position.

Not sure a BMW GSA is a dual sport, but the wind protection was much, much better than the KLR. I think my 2022 KLR is even worse than the DR650 I had......with no windshield. It almost feels as though the KLR "windscreen" aerodynamics intensify the wind on my helmet. Just my opinion.

I would think the gsa is probably a work of art all around. One day I'd like to ride one. I do have a 1983 r100rt with the fairings removed converted to a standard hooked to velorex hack. I also own a 1983 flht with a newer batwing. When I removed the tall shield I got one heck of a buffet even at 45mph. Ridden plenty of dualsports and still have a few in the garage.

I believe your helmet must be in the dense air coming off the top of the gen 3 shield. Im 5'9" and sit kinda upright and 2up sit close to the tank. I have my helmet visor raked way down past the standard settings. I must have got used to it or adjusted somehow because I know the stream of air is there. Also I ride about 70mph max and more likely 54-65mph.

But I agree with you on the intensity of the stream of air. I've held my left hand in it when I first noticed it. This has me curious to why I noticed right away then somehow adjusted. I thought it was the gusty day. Maybe 2up is playing into the aerodynamics. I did notice in Big Rock videos he installed the lip deflector. Kinda a pricey item for what it is in my opinion. Anyone want to add to this is would help future owners. Buffeting can be tough to deal with for sure.

Swanky Cat has a t7, gen3 and a tw. I know which one will be a trail breaker.

The following is a post by @jespo with my reply underneath.

    Hi Everyone,
Picked up a 2022 KLR adventure about a month ago... and just did my 600 mile initial oil change.
So far I'm very happy with the bike... except for one little fuel injection behavior... and wondering if any new KLR owners are experiencing the same behavior.

    FI Behavior Description:
When cruising while engine is in mid-upper RPM (my guess ~3500 and above.. no tach but familiar with RPM sound from previous gen), then slowly rolling off throttle, the FI cuts fuel and/or ignition to the engine. (Most likely by design to prevent decel pop, cool engine, save fuel, etc... my Indian Scout did the same thing... seems to be new FI norm)
This 'fuel cut' behavior results in aggressive engine braking. (You can also hear the engine stop firing)
When slowly rolling the throttle back on, the transition is abrupt, resulting in a jerk/surge. (and you hear the engine firing/running again)
This is most noticeable when trying to maintain steady 50+ MPH down hill or flat road.
This 'behavior' does not happen at slower speeds and lower (<~3500) RPM ranges.
I can clearly hear the engine firing with the throttle closed at lower engine speeds... and the transition from 'closed throttle-to-opening throttle' is super smooth.

    Thoughts?[/QUOTE]

That’s interesting, I test rode a 22 last Saturday and it was doing the exact thing you mentioned, abrupt fuel cuts in the midrange while trying to cruise steadily in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear. I loved everything about the bike except that. The dealer let me ride another bike and I could not get that bike to do the same thing. I have money down on one right now and you have me worried. I did notice that on the bike that exhibited these symptoms that the throttle cables had too much play and the play needed to be adjusted out.

Dealer prep involves installing the throttle. The cables are not fine strand cables. The housing and cables benefit grease and careful assembly on install. The proper adjustment is in the owners manual. Besides that the throttle body probably only has direct single butterfly. I would think the ecm gets "confused" by the quick manifold pressure changes. Its made worse when your use to carb bikes. Be steady with opening and closing the lubed and adjusted throttle and see if the problem still exists. Seen similar issues with harley riders going from accelerator pump carbs to efi on cold mornings. Different systems and techniques.
