MO Swinging Bridges Ride 2016 -April 30 thru May 1, 2016
9th running of the Missouri SBR

Who wants to do it again? Here are the details for the 9th running of the ride. I've been on the first seven, but sadly missed #8 due to a death in the family. Let's do it again!

Will hopefully be able to work on some updated tracks, but I'm GPS and Basecamp challenged, so no promises. We'll run last year's route as a default for now

Revised and cleaned up GPS tracks are at the bottom of this post, thanks to Sieg (thanks Sieg!) Please use these for your 2016 ride. if Akers Ferry is closed, there is a low water bridge to cross up stream a few miles. Follow the crowd, your senses or GPS, or ask in the store if you want.

For those without a GPS or map program that would like to look at the track. Here you go>V

    http://www.everytrail.com/tell_story.php?trip_id=3420377&fromGV=true&newUser=true&partner_id=1002

Just click the link and you can see it to highlight it on your paper map or you can probably print it from this website, IDK, don't do paper.

You may want to choose "Goggle map" above the map rather than "Google terrain" also.

And that website is messed up, you may need to "refresh" it 3 or 4 times before it loads.

Start in St. Clair, MO like last year and run it same as the last couple years. See below for the Friday night Hotel info. Folks can leave their trucks there for the weekend if they are staying there on Friday night. Biscuits and gravy for breakfast in the morning to get you going.

Make sure you have someone to ride with that has a GPS....also Self sufficiency is the Key to Success....tubes, tools, GPS, Maps, snorkels, etc.....

Here's some historic info on the bridges. Note that they are disappearing rapidly , so get on this ride to see them while they are still swingin'

Here's the previous year's ride threads if you want to get an idea on the ride. Mostly gravel, some trail, almost all COULD be done on a bigger bike

    Friday Night Hotel- April 29
    Budget Lodging
    866 S I-44 Outer Road
    St. Clair, MO
    636-629-1000

Mention the ride when you make reservations, rate is $79.44

    Saturday Night Hotel -April 30
Best Western. Phone number is 573-336-4299
When you call them make sure you mention the ride to get the special SBR room rate of $64 and change. You can cancel 24 hours in advance if you can't make the ride.

For those that want to camp Sat night - here's the link http://www.layzday.com/

There is also a primitive camp spot as a waypoint in the file.

Fuel Stops.....I would make sure you have a 130 mile range, if not plan accordingly. Or ride with a friend who has a big tank and carry a siphon hose.

Sunday Definitely stop at the Church Picnic in St. Anthony. If you leave about 8 am or so from the hotel, take a little time at the bridges...it works out to get there when they open at 11:00 am....Fried Chicken, Roast Beef, all the fixins, and Pie. Maybe even a train ride! Definitely worth the stop for some good eats, and there are very welcoming to us riders!

Let's see who's in. So as not to clutter up the thread with the same long list, I'll keep track by updating this 1st post every so often. Just post up that you are coming, along with all the rest of your colorful comments, and I'll add you to the list in this first post.
    See you on the trail

Good point, if Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. Thanks for the catch, lets move it back a weekend. Now April 30 and May 1!

I'm sure we would have missed the church picnic too, which would be the 1st Sunday in May.

Wish I could make it but have plans already. I rode part of the route back in October. This was my favorite, Kemna Bridge. The corrugated deck makes a wonderful amount of noise riding across it. Lots of the old bridges have been replaced by unremarkable, modern concrete bridges. Ride 'em while you can.
