This past Saturday I returned home from a solo nine day, 2300 mile ride from here in San Francisco do to Baja California. It was an awesome trip and below you'll find the story of the trip in pictures (with captions). If you want to read the full trip report then you can check it out here:

    ¡Baja, te amo!

Pre-trip preparation included new stickers, +10hp!

I was all alone on Highway 58 riding east

A sign of good times to come

    For sure I approve!

With roughly 50 miles of gas in the tank, and 50 miles to the next gas station, the last gas pump was out of order!

Haggling with the kind gent earned me the chance to buy two gallons, more than enough to reach Ojai...

The setting sun gave everything a nice glow as I rode through the Los Padres National Forest into Ojai for the night.

The carne asada plate at Tio's was the bomb!

And Tio's was a weird art-installation type joint

That night I hung out with my friend Keith in La Mesa, naturally we went out for a few beers

Welcome to Mexico! (Tecate is where I crossed)

Now heading south on Highway 5

Lots and lots of sand along Highway 5... lots!

Awww yeah, San Felipe comin' up!

    Tecate and tacos, delicious!

Something about this lone boat on the beach caught my eye

The Shrimp Festival was in full effect and it made for a great night on the waterfront

I think it's clear that this boat is for the birds

What would become a daily ritual, huevos rancheros for breakfast

Looking south along the San Felipe waterfront

Heading south after leaving San Felipe

The pavement had ended and I stopped for a panoramic photo op (click the image to view a high-res version)

Miles and miles later another panoramic shot... and yes that island is covered in bird poop (click the image to view a high-res version)

Miles and miles and miles of rocky, sandy, loose and fun, DIRT!

Lots of random abandon buildings along the way

    So I paused for a self-portrait

Panoramic view of the road to the beach at Gonzaga Bay (click the image to view a high-res version)

Panoramic view of Gonzaga Bay, at the time I was the lone guest at Alfonsina's! Eight more would show up later... (click the image to view a high-res version)

    Ahhh, a cold Pacifico

While gazing at all the stickers I found some local love!

Then later at night I found more.

I hung out with these guys from San Luis Obispo, and won $40 off 'em playing poker. :lol3

Panoramic shot of the hotel from the beach (click the image to view a high-res version)

Another photo of Alfonsina's, the open (black) door upstairs at the right was my room

What did I tell ya, huevos rancheros to start the day, every day

Heading south towards Coco's Corner and eventually Highway 1

Panoramic view of the terrain along the way (click the image to view a high-res version)

I stopped for a cold beer, or two, at Coco's Corner

    Another shot of Coco's Corner

Cans along the fence at Coco's Corner

I made the long run out of the dirt and turned north on Highway 1

And rode to El Rosario de Arriba to stay at the Baja Cactus Hotel (nice joint!)

Panoramic view of Mama Espinoza's, another noted stop for grub on the Baja circuit (click the image to view a high-res version)

The day started with a quick run out to Punta Baja

Panoramic shot on the road heading back to El Rosario de Arriba from Punta Baja (click the image to view a high-res version)

I was poking my way around looking for a coastal off-road route, some local directions had me going this way
    [IMG]
I'd come from somewhere out there

Me and the local military boys getting to know each other (ahem, me getting searched)

For a while the road was in great shape, then it deteriorated into a rough, rutted and rocky mess

Lots of gates to open and close along the way

After nearly looping my bike on a steep rocky climb, I took a break...

...and snapped an accidentally awesome (IMO) photo

Baja 1000 racers go this way! And yes, I looked way up road before stopping in the middle for a photo

My bike takes in the ocean view

It was nice to see and hear the pounding surf again

The ultra cool strangers that after a long tiring day waved me down, fed me steak and seafood, offered me beer and then let me crash in a spare room at their coastal house! (click the image to view a high-res version)

Not a bad view to take in while sippin' coffee in the morning eh?

Panoramic view of the house I'd stayed in, nice! (click the image to view a high-res version)

Oh yes, I was still eating huevos rancheros for breakfast every day

Breakfast was served out of "El Trailero" somewhere along Highway 1

Riding in to the hills to approach Mike's Sky Ranch from the south

The road just past Rancho Coyote

The start of the climb that stumped me, about a half-mile around that corner I had to turn tail and head back out (read about it in my ride report)

This should help demonstrate my mood, I was bummed

Even the coyote looked at me like fresh meat, it approached until this stare down at about 20-30 feet, no fear

So I rode back to Eréndria and decided to camp at Coyote Cal's

But not until I had a delicious dinner...

...at Vannia's Cocina Familiar, the bomb spot, don't miss it!

As well as not until knocking back a few beers at Coyote Cal's "cantina"

Another bitchin' view to start my day

Heading north on Highway 1 past a winery (on the right)

At this point I quickly neared the Ensenada area and wasn't feeling it so I quickly rode through and cut east on Highway 3 heading towards Ojos Negros.

I cut into the hills just east of the turn-off to Ojos Negros and quickly found lots of this

Luckett was right, he told me there'd be pine trees up there

Riding along I suddenly came upon this thing up on a small hill

And it turned out to be a religious shrine

And it offered incredible views like this to the south - where I was going (click the image to view a high-res version)

And it also offered incredible views like this to the north - where I'd come from (click the image to view a high-res version)

More awesomeness just north of Rancho San Faustino

Panoramic view of the valley I was in (click the image to view a high-res version)

And of course I took another self-portrait

Somewhere out there the dirt ends and pavement begins... booo!

Cabin #7 at Rancho Ojai, my crib for the night

That poor torta, it didn't last long

After crossing the border I stopped for breakfast in Barrett Junction

Then in the interest of just gettin' home I rode on I-5, for hours... :thumbdown

But made it home once again

Nine days and almost 2300 miles of bliss on my motorcycle. My motorcycles are where I go to find my god, to get to my inner soul, to find action and adventure. Baja served all that up in spades, all while also delivering great food, cold beer and tons of super nice people… ¡Baja, te amo!

I'm on BARF with the same screen name and you'll find this same report posted in this thread. Plenty of riding to do this winter of course but my mind is already wondering about a two week trip back to Baja next spring (gotta get my friend Terry, aka Adventure Trio here on ADV) to make it this time too!
