BTW, painting the inside of the headlight bucket white really helps with the wiring.

Oh no, not standard, not happening.
I have rewired quite a few bikes and don't have a problem working inside the shell.

Fair enough, but not all of your builds are restorations, so a little deviation ought to be ok.

All the connections are made outside the shell so I use natural light.
The connections get pushed back inside the shell when finished in order to refit the headlight unit.

The white certainly works on things like rally cars, all engine bays are white, what ever the team colours.

Inside the headlamp shell should be fit and forget.

    Yup.

But the hella 8" headlamp on my mirage was the worst "light" I ever had. At the time I worked at an auto electrician place who prepped rally car. Had access to all sorts of bulbs from the period to try, including the hot shot 130w H4 things from PIAA. None made much of a difference.

Who ever made it - been a long time, same crap result. Any better reflector/lens now?

Did Suzuki (again) use an 8" unit?

    No idea about Suzuki units.
The 8" Bosch was used on Ducati Monsters until recently, so must have been good enough.
Much better than the rectangular ones used on later Laverdas.
