Wondering recently if I should be doing any kind of maintenance--I guess just cleaning and lube--on the sidestand or center stand of my '08 GS Adventure.

Both are working fine, so thinking in terms of preventative maintenance. (There is a little surface rust on the cross-bar of the center stand, guess I should sand that down and paint it.)

    Thoughts?

I would lube the moving friction areas and not worry too much

Just a dab of lube. DO NOT squirt with WD40, is dispels the lube. I also rub down and paint my centerstand frequently without removing it, just the area that gets blasted.

I look at the wire and connector for the sidestand cut-off switch to make sure that it's not too loaded up with crap and not flapping around where it's likely to get caught on something. I think I actually added an extra wire tie down there somewhere to help keep it tucked up out of the way.
