The 08 filler cap is a PITA . Has anyone been able to rotate the fuel cap 180d ? The 08 gas cap mounting is not symetrical. Also the rubber neck can that be removed ?
    Suggestions, TIA

I just pulled the 4 mounting screw's . The cap will rotate 180 no problem, but there sure is going to be alot of grinding of tupperware and the red filler neck to allow the latch to drop down.
A little more research is needed prior to surgery

The fuel cap when rotated 180 will not allow the 4 mounting holes to align (asymetric).
So this project is dead in the water for now.

    hey Peter,

I turned mine around, the 4 mounting holes for the GAS CAP line up when turned 180 degrees.

I think all you have to do is dremel the other side of the base down to mount it the other way, but it won't SEAL on the original side.

    you do that 1st ok?
when I see a photo of the job completed, Then I'll drill the hole in the bottom of my GSA tank for that fitting deal?

    :evil:evil

    Loon,

The holes on my filler do not line up :eek1
Got a picture of your fuel cap job ?

I will drill the tank next thursday, currently expect the special bmw cap tool to house by tuesday.
Spent $40 on the step bit.
Yeah I will be holding my breath , I do plan to practice prior to the big drill job.:lol3

    Thanks !

    Hi Peter,

    I just won a 3 Uni-Bit kit on fleeBay for $9.99 U.S.
    The one I need is 3/4" ... it's a DEEP STEP uni-Bit too...
I was told that this ADV tank is 1/4" thick, so a regular "step" uni bit won't be deep enough, I believe the reg step Uni's are 1/8" to the next step.
If the biggest step is the hole size you need, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Looks like we'll be destroying our Mega-dollar tanks at approx. the same time :huh

Hey ... look at it this way, if we both ^^*& it up, maybe BMW will give us the "Idiot Group rate" on new ADV tanks :D

    good luck, post pics ok?
I ordered Permatex "AVIATION" seal-a-gasket to, that'll be on first, then the Bulk head fitting with the O-rings and O-ring retainers

    I'll post pics too
