I'm finally starting to catch up with myself after getting home. Of course the week between the 4th of July and now has been filled with visiting family and out of town guests, so I actually feel like I've just now gotten home. But I did manage to get the bike washed!

It looked liked that when was a child, and I'm closing in on 50. I used this pic to prevent a coworker from getting fleeced. Classic tourist trap that will never be worth the price of admission.

    Adrenaline Girl,
I don't think you rode far enough around the backside. This is the view I remember:

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I also would be interested in hearing some of your kids' experiences. If this means signing up for Twitter, Instagram, or whatever, I guess I'll miss out. You all returned intact, no pending court cases, or medical procedures. Success!!

I love the names: Dirt Squirt, Super Rat, Combat Wombat, Road Toad. Reminds me of the good old days before I knew how short life was.

Ice Cream Soldier - Good idea! I should have had the boys post some things. Maybe I can do some arm twisting and get them on here to post their thoughts. However, they must have really enjoyed it because since we've gotten home they reminisce every day about that trip. As a matter of fact, it only took a couple of weeks of them being home with their friends before Riley was begging me to plan another adventure.

Really, when it comes to adventure, I'm in. So it didn't take too much arm twisting to get me on board with the thought of a new one. Because we just did an epic motorcycle trip, we looked for a different method of travel. After some debate between a vintage Volkswagen Hippie Bus and Sailboat, the sailboat won. So in a couple of weeks, we are loading up our newly acquired 25 foot sailboat and are sailing through the Erie Canal into New York City and south to Florida. Robbie won't be joining us on this trip since reality has struck and he's now a college student in Arizona. Lorin will join up with us at certain points along the way just like on the bike trip.

So we will go from carving corners at speed to topping out at whopping 6.7 knots - at least I won't be risking any speeding tickets! If any of you are sailors and want to follow along with us, you can do so on my blog: longandwindingroad.org. Now if I can just find a way to strap my motorcycle onto the deck, I'd be all set!

PS - To all of you who told me that I will appreciate the motorcycle trip even more when my kids are grown up and gone - you were so right. Robbie's only been gone two weeks and I'm already telling people that the best thing our family did was that trip. That time we had we will never get back, and I'm so grateful that I was able to make those memories and have that time.

Sounds like a great trip. I thought their were some low bridges on the canal?

Yes there are several low bridges. The law is that sailboats must have their masts down and can only use engine power through the canal. So technically we are motoring through the canal and will sail once we are all the way through.

Has anyone heard from Adrenaline Girl since she started her sailing adventure? Had been following her on blog, "The Long and Winding Road" but she hasn't posted since October of 2015. Hope they made the trip alright.
