Been planning this trip since early last winter. Spent most of the winter prepping my 2013 KTM 500 EXC for this 10 day off road trip. Total kilometers just under 2300. A pic of my bike after all the prep work, ready to go.

Going to try and keep the exclanations short with more pictures. But basically we trucked our bikes about 9 hours to the ferry in North Sydney and took the night Crossing to Port Au Basque.

    20190717_214249.jpg

And headed up the railbed to Stephenville are, where we spent 5 unbelivable days at Lewis Hills Lodge. Gerard Brake is the owner. Look him up for a true NL experience!!!

Gerard, at his Lewis Hills Lodge....the highest elevation in all of NL.

First 5 days of our trip were spent exploring every area around Stephenville within 200 -300 kms

8 flats in total...with "Uncle Brad" suffering 5 of them. This was his 3rd in two days.
    20190719_120009.jpg

Day two carnage. High spd wheelie gone wrong..90 foot scrub off in a 5 ft ditch= a bent front rim and subframe.

Then all of us getting "Screached In" that night at Lewis Hills Lidge. Have I mentioned yet that Lewis Hills Lodge is an unbelievable place to stay. We had our own Chef, 3 unbelievable meals a day our own rooms, all the food we can eat... unreal views and Hospitality you wouldn't believe unless you experienced it firsthand.

After the "Ceremonies", we were all treated to a good ol fashioned NL hoe-down by Sid and Barb, friends of Gerard's, who who travelled an hr on their sxs to entertain us for hours!!! It was.....a very special night.

Next day got off to a slow start....

3 other buddies met us the third day and we continued on.

Serpentine Lake was a must see, and a few of us took a dip. Not sure of the water temp...but I am guessing around 60F

    Happy...

    20190723_145552[1].jpg

Day 5 we head North East to Buchans around the south side of Red Indian Lake, and were treated to this meal after a 250 kms day. Did I mention we ate well?? The Red Ochre Inn, in Buchans NL. Sue told me when we arrived, "help yourself to our kitchen whenever you want"....yeah, no need to tell me twice!!

    20190723_182309[1].jpg

Uncle Brad looking.....slightly paranoid?? Andy on the left, Mike then Doug. Gooood times!

    20190723_182320[1].jpg

Havin some beers after dinner. L to R....Mike (DR 650), Brad (DR 650), Chris (Husky 350), Luke (KTM 450 EXC), Wally, (DRz400SM with knobbies) and Andy (DRz400S) 20190723_194656[1].jpg

Next Day, gassed up and headed North West to the Gaff Topsails (pronounced Gaff Topsils). It was a long, barren railbed trek....we saw blackbears on the trail, caribou in the barren tundra and loads of other critters. After about 100 plus kms we came to the Topsails. Huge solo mountain rocky outcrops..free standing, alone in the middle of nowhere. Pretty cool. 9 of us attempted the climb to the top of one...only 4 of us made it. It was a gnarly climb, and to be fair, the guys who attempted, but only made it about 3/4's of the way up, were loaded with all their gear.

    20190724_113248[1].jpg

There they are.....about 700 meters above seal level...if I recall. We biked up the one on the right.

    20190724_130849[1].jpg

Chris and I at the top...looking down.

    20190724_132114[1].jpg

Then Mike, Wally and Luke joined us. So 5...not 4. We had to hike from where the bikes are, but what a view!!

More Topsails from the top of ours.

    20190724_134234[1].jpg

After coming down, we needed to make some time. But when we got close to Howler, we realized that Andy had gotten a flat, about 15 k back. So the 5 of us waited for the 4 of them at this one horse store...it had everything you can imagine inside.

    20190724_165406[1].jpg

Hers comes Andy with rear flat fixed...wait till you see the "Nail" his rear tired picked up!!

    20190724_175846[1].jpg

We made it to our cabins...The Frontier Cabins, just 10 mins from Gros Morne Nat'l Park

    20190724_214619[1].jpg

    20190724_214652[1].jpg

Where Andy revealed his "nail". His front tire kicked it up at the exact angle for his rear tire to injest...through both sides of the tube and into the center rim

Lewis hills lodge was an amazing experience in both location and hospitality, truely a special place I was only too luck to experience. Deer lake Home hardware is what every hardware store should be, lumber yard with bike parts! Anyone not been to Newfoundland needs to go.

Next day, we pushed to Carteyville where we would spend our last night before boarding the ferry the following night. On our way to our cabins, I noticed a nice area where I would go back to that night for some pics. This is where I really wished I had a nice camera, instead of my Samsung A8.

Our last day, we talked to a local and he suggested we push for a place called Ship Cove. Glad he did...what a spot.

And our fearless leader posing for one last glamour shot...thanks for all your hard work and prep for this trip, Bradly.

For anyone who hasn't had the chance to travel to NL, whether by a cage, rv, sxs or dirtbike....I strongly urge you to go. The people are amazing...so generous, kind and genuine. Their hospitality is second to none I've experienced. We got very lucky with the weather...sun and warm every day except for one cloudy day with 15 mins of drizzle. Til next time fellas....braaaaaap....
