That's where the case breaks. Mine was worse and leaked oil. Clean it up well and monitor.

Yeah that sucks. But if it doesn't leak oil then there's no rush to change it. It may or may not progress.

I bought the 2012 pre broke and it was cheap. I also have a spare engine at home.

There are people who can weld that. Remove all the computers first, including ABS. You cannot change that lower crankcase by itself. The bearing and crank bores are line bored together so it's a matched set. Mine was way worse so I parted out the engine after finding another. In Canada, no one cares about the engine SN. Here in Costa Rica, they'll take the bike if the number is wrong!!

Winterpeg? There'll be lots of time to fix it then if you have a garage.

    Sorry, had to. :-)

I've changed a few of these engines. It's like a puzzle. They only come out and go in one way.

I did this 2012 Triple Black in the basement in winter. Ran a strap from the ceiling joist to lift the engine in.

Yes, cast for sure but I don't know the specifics of the alloy. All the side cases etc are the same blend if you need something to experiment on. You have your spare engine to play with. I have a number of components but forget which. My remaining spare engine is an F800R.

Yes but it has its limitations we used it allot on Pratt & Whitney 985,1340 & 2800

Needs have all oil removed to bond and is not strong enough for a part under a high load.

I have ferried airplanes from the north with cracked cases with JB weld but was in areas that did not involve support structure

Funny. 12000 miles ago I put on JT sprockets and a DID chain. Just last week I was looking at the sprockets and thought they looked more worn than they should, while the chain looks excellent. Was considering putting OEM sprockets on to make sure the chain sees it's actual useful life without issues.

Is that a reasonable route to take?
