Steens mountain loop has pretty smooth gravel. Great views.
The 10th Annual Giant Loop Ride is the first event on the demo schedule for the new Pan America: https://advrider.com/harley-davidson-kicking-off-pan-america-demo-tour/
Hello! Glad you can join us. We have had generally great weather that first weekend in June, with day time temps ranging from 60-80. It can be windy. And because of the elevation, it's almost always cold at night - approaching freezing some years.
Most of our routes are dirt and gravel forest and desert roads, suitable for a range of bike types and riding skills. There is very technical and challenging terrain for those who want more challenge, as well.
You will have many good options to choose from in our GPS tracks!
We've had a little bit of rain and little bit of snow in the 10 years we've done this ride, but mostly great spring-like weather. Oregon has every kind of riding you can imagine, and eastern Oregon certainly has a wide variety. Our GPS tracks are ridable on even big adventure bikes by skilled riders, and there are many large, scenic and dirt and gravel roads that are not technical.
The biggest challenges in this remote location are fuel range and the distance from help.
The loop road is incredible. But in June, it will be buried in snow still (the top is 9000 ft).
I went in July of 2018 and they still had closed off. I wanted to get to the top finally. Bummer
It’s usually open by July 4, but sometimes there’s too much snow. Last year, we rescheduled the ride for September, and the loop road was open.
On our local NBC news here in Bend- O!

Is there a registration deadline? I am currently not riding because of a broken thumb. I think/hope I'll be back on the bike in May, but if I need surgery I wont be riding until mid June. Since there is no refund for cancellations after April 15, and final payments are due 5/1, I'm going to need to delay registration until May, once I know if I'll be able to ride in early June. Is that possible?
Yes! If you think you can make it, please sign up! We can work with you on the timing. Odds are, we’re going to have to shut off the sign ups soon - possibly before April 15 - because we have a limit on how many people we can feed. We’re well over halfway there now.
Put my deposit in
Hey, OlafofOregon, I sent you a private message with questions about registration.
Flavor of the area. Mountains to the south, east and north of the hot springs, with high desert sage brush and juniper in the lower elevations.
Reminders: Deadline to cancel deposit is April 15! Also, we’re going to have to cap sign ups at 400, and we have nearly 300 now. Reserve your spot today, and invite a friend before we’ve filled the campground and maxed out the caterer’s capacity!
If you want to add some days of exploring before or after the GLRide, the options in this area are bountiful!
We're closing registration for the 10h Annual Giant Loop Ride next Wednesday, May 12!
We have about 300 riders and vendors signed up now, and we need to order food, beverage, etc. based on a solid head count.
Last chance to sign up (full payment required now): https://www.giantloopmoto.com/product/10th-annual-giant-loop-ride/
Did some pre-riding and scouting last weekend. Put in a new dirt section in the Bend to Burns off-road track, and I added a new dirt loop in the mountains. Spectacluar!
REGISTRATION FOR THE 2021 GIANT LOOP RIDE IS NOW CLOSED! We have a headcount of 325 registered riders, vendors and staff this year - twice the size of our largest ride.
If you couldn't join us this year, put the first weekend in June on your calendar for next year: June 3-5, 2022!
I'm excited about this ride. And this year, I hope to get out of it without a fractured collar bone.
In years past, the routes were emailed out prior. As this is fast approaching, should we expect the routes soon?
Me too, waiting to add to my gps.
