This is a cross-post from the East regional forum, since several attendees are coming from as far as Ohio and Texas......

    ......................................................................

It is a go, and we've at least a dozen confirmed riders/campers coming. It should be a large time. Join us if you can. Here is most of the information from the other post that we used to throw it together.

We are holding a low-key, dual sport, camping weekend ride in the Monongahela National Forest, West Virginia the weekend of 12-14 May. The location is the Laurel Fork campground, about 12 miles west of the top of Spruce Knob (the highest mountain in West Virginia). The GPS coords (to within a mile or so)are : N38.42.579 W79.42.223

This is an austere site that is at least 20 miles from the closest paved road. There are campsites, port-a-johns, picnic tables, and fire rings. Everything else you'll have to bring with you. Plan on camping, cooking, and schlepping in all your food and beverages. Campsites cost $8 a night, but up to 4 tents are allowed per site. Several of us will be arriving on Thursday the 11th, to snag at least 3 sites.

The Monongahela is one of the best off-pavement riding areas in the east, and is surrounded by some of the best paved roads in the east too. But all vehicles operating in the Mon must be street legal and licensed. There are plenty of variations of roads to satisfy everyone. The majority of fire roads in the Mon are good enough to ride a streetbike on, if you use some common sense.

Come on out to join us for a great weekend of riding our bikes like they were intended, camping in the wilds, and telling lies around the campfire at night! But remember, you gots to bring everything you need because it is a long way out to the closest 7-11.....

Let us know if you can join us!
