Just rolled in. Was farting around wondering where I'd camp for the night around 4:30pm when I got a text from a contractor saying he could finish up a project I've been waiting for him to get to.........so I just kept ol' blue rolling south.
Glad to meet all'yall hope to see ya's out on the road!
I'll 4th the Thank You !
It was a great, relaxing and entertaining time.
Thank you for hosting the event. you did a great job.
Does it fucking ever not fucking rain in this fucking state? Fuck.
I'm in Harbor Springs just at the edge of M-119 Tunnel of Trees Rd.
Today I leisurely took backroads and ended up at this little drive-up coffee shack. Ended up talking with the owner (Harley guy) who told me that M-22 was quote "probably the best road in the state" and that I needed to check out Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in the Sleeping Bear Dunes park.
So I did.
I'm not gonna complain cause I've done enough of that from within my soggy helmet all day. I'll just say I regret taking his advice. I should've busted ass to 119 and been 1/2 way home right now.
I've been in rain from the moment I stepped outside the motel room at 9am. My frog toggs ripped in the crotch around noon. Pants been soaked ever since. My penis still hasn't retracted, fucker might be lost. No heated grips or waterproof gloves. Temp was 58 most the day and always raining but sometimes I was lucky enough to get drizzle rather than complete storms!
Doing 119 tomorrow and then likely riding 10 hours straight home.
I'm just super grumpy and cold!
I did see some cool shit...
The coffee shop owner's dog was cool as hell...
He said after the recent high winds there will be sand all over 119 and to keep it slow!!
Only a very small section is exposed to Lake Michigan shoreline with sand. Besides the rain washes it away. Watch out for the weekend gaukers and bicyclist. Don't forget to stop at Leggs where they claiM to have the longest bar in the state. As far as a ten hours ride home, it'll be more like 12 to 14. It's 4 1/2 to my house from Petoskey and its 5 1/2 from my house to Cinci actually Mason and that's with no construction.
Drop me a note should you need a place to crash, you gotta go past my house to get home.
I arrived home yesterday at about 6:00 after a good, long ride across NY on route 17. The bad t-storms from the previous day were gone, but it was cloudy and cool most of the way, which is my idea of perfect riding weather. Duckwife had some takeout from our favorite local restaurant waiting for me.
Although I thanked already Skid in another thread, I'll say thank you again here; I really enjoyed your hospitality and your awesome homestead, as well as the social time with the other attendees. I needed that!
Did M119 at 730am and promotly hit I-75S for 500 miles of OMFG never again.
Did you cross the Mighty Mac and ride the grated section? I know the weather was shitty for your trip. Usually August is rather dry around here. I'll be headed up to the Harbor Springs area next week .
You musta hauled ass home . Slabbing The straight ass I-75 must of sucked.
Correction - it's for rolling south to get the hell outta your flat ass state! Lol
I didn't go all that fast coming home, it averaged out to 61 including stops...
I didn't cross the bridge, no. Lunch at Boonedocks (another Harley guy suggestion) yesterday featuring a lake perch sandwich where I discussed the UP with locals who told me with only 1 day left to ride, I shouldn't even bother going to the UP.
I found out today a lifelong buddy of mine has family up there that could've put me up rather than me spending a small fortune to escape the rain in Harbor Springs at a motel. Damnit!
Ya , the northwest corner of the lower peninsula is our hilly section. Also an expensive section compared to the rest of the state.
Just as I get to connect a username to a person in meat space , Juddspaintball goes and changes it to manstache
He got sick of people calling him "Judd." Now everyone will call him "stache."
