I have a little over 400 miles on my 2018 1290 SA s, I noticed that I can not program the shift light till my first service at 621 miles, is this something the dealer needs to do with a diag computer?

Also what rpm have your guys shifted at? My bike is still new so I am not riding it real hard yet, I think I got to 8k once but that was on accident. How comfortable are you guys at shifting at a high rpm?

At 620 miles on my 18’ SAR, I did the oil change ( see my other post for related topic) and reset the shift light. Found a YouTube video showing how to reset it. I didn’t rev it past 6k before 620 miles. There’s a lot of opinion on how to break in a motor but when in doubt I follow the manufacturers recommendation.

The dealer doesn't have to do anything. The software in the bike just recognizes when you've passed 1000km (~600 miles) and automatically enables the option to change it in the dash. You're manual also provides this info.
