Had a great time exploring around Bishop and hanging out around camp meeting new peeps. Thanks Dave and Matt for helping with my broken bike and Razr for organizing. Will be back next year to complete White Mountain.

Awesome to see Coyote Flats, thanks for the pics guys. Wish I could have made this trip, but I'll be up there for the Bishop Dual Sport ride in October.

    Circa August 2000......
    dscn0235.jpg

    And you guys August 2017.......

Same spot. Still looks the same minus the two labs (I dearly miss still) cooling off in the stream. Same amount of snow even. Awesome for me personally to see that, as it's been some time since I've been up there (life, kids, etc.). Thanks for the pics Outlaw, that made my day!!!

RAZR's fast group caught us on the switchback climbing out of Bishop.

Emilio rode this wheelie all the way up to the Flats :ricky
    [IMG]

Sue did a great job, smooth and steady :clap
    [IMG]

    Rob got a little squirrely

Danny had a mild tipover on the slippery surface :muutt
    [IMG]

Found the fast guys (and gals!) takin' a break in the first good patch of shade and decided that was a good idea :nod

Friday ride to Coyote Flats continued...

Just as we were getting set to roll, noticed Danny's rear tire was flat. Bummer. Couldn't find any nail or culprit, so tried pumping it up. Wouldn't get up to full pressure, but it would hold a little, so I suggested we push on up to the top and find a nicer (cooler) place for wrenching.

    First crossing of Coyote Creek.

I've been to Coyote Lake several times, but this was the first time it was full. Awesome!

Great place to take a lunch break and swap tubes.
RAZR and crew showed up soon after to keep us company :kumbaya

    Moving on...

Coyote Flats with Sugarloaf (10,900') on the left.

King's Cabin down along Baker Creek.

First time up here for Rob, Sue, and Danny. I think everyone was amazed at the scenery and will definitely be back :nod

The challenge of climbing up had been enough for Sue, so we decided to skip the hard way down to Big Pine and head back the way we came.

Triple digit temperatures when we got back down to Bishop :knary
Quick stop at the casino for fuel, then we set our sites on Tom's Place for dinner up at the cooler elevations.

Checked my mirrors at the top of Rock Creek Rd (Old Sherwin Grade) and saw that everyone was there. Jumped on 395 for a quick mile to TP. Sue was right there behind me, but no Rob or Danny. Waited a few minutes, then headed back. Danny's bike had died (fully locked up) just as he rolled up to the stop sign. As they were explaining the situation, I get a text from DSM8 (Dave) who had just arrived at camp. Perfect timing. I called Dave and arranged to have him meet us at Tom's Place with ramp and tie-downs for a bike rescue.

Of course, that meant that Rob and Danny would hafta get a little cozy :evil
    [IMG]

Despite the drama, still smiles all around :clap
    [IMG]

After dinner, Dave and Danny set off to retrieve the dead DRZ (we suspect failed tensioner leading to cam chain skipping a tooth), while Rob, Sue, and I rode back to camp.

Just rolled into town last night after continuing the great fun that we all had at the unrally for the rest of the week (backpacking and skiing). I asked my son what he thought was his favorite part of our trip and he didn't hesitate to say "motorcycling!". I was so stoked to hear that because I never really got the feeling that Marlo was all that excited about the sport. Turns out that he came over that hump this year and he can enjoy the challenging terrain and he really enjoyed the great scenery. Thanks Razr for getting us together. Count us in for next year!

Surprisingly nice up on the peak. Light breeze and not too cold. We spent some time taking pics and just soaking in the views, then back down to 'Mars' and a turn north on Jesse's Trail.

Ken and Van had gotten a taste that would bring them back soon, the sky was getting dark and ugly, so we started to head back towards the trucks.

    Desert Creek single track :ricky
    [IMG]

...and quite a few creek crossings.

Got rained on a bit approaching and around Lobdell Lake. Knocked the dust down for awhile, which was nice :ricky

Back to the trucks, loaded up, and a stop in Lee Vining for dinner.

Took a side trip around June Lake Loop on the way back to camp. Awesome to see Grant Lake full of water :nod

Sunday ride through the White Mtns with Rob, Ken, and Van.

Packed up camp sunday morning and drove down to Bishop to stage from Laws.

General plan was to ride the Crooked Creek loop CCW before heading up to Barcroft. Silver Cyn was about as bad as I have ever seen it. Rough and loose all the way. Still no big deal on the small bikes, but I kept my hands on the bars and didn't take any pics 'til we got to the top.

Sunday ride through the White Mtns continued...

Almost noon now and I knew a great place to take the guys for a lunch break. Unfortunately soon after turning off towards Cottonwood Creek, Van scored a rear flat. While wrenching, we heard some more bikes approaching. Turned out to be a good friend Glen (r'elise me), with his son and another buddy. We settled in among the ancient trees for lunch and a few laughs :D

We hit the main White Mtn road and hustled north to Barcroft Station.

Didn't spend much time at the station. Light drizzle falling and it was nearly 3pm, so time to start heading back.

One last stop at the top of Silver before dropping back down into the heat.

Arrived back at the trucks with temps well in to the triple digits :knary

Suited down, loaded up, and hit the road for home :pynd
