It's snowing in Denver as I type this, 28 December 2020. My buddy @turn_one has a place for the winter in St. George and I'm ready to ride. Nine hours each way and if I leave tomorrow morning I can ride for four days. We will base camp out of his place and have one night of camping planned on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Stoked for this little adventure!
    Packed and ready:

We've been riding together since before we could grow beards. Now our beards are gray. Crazy. Here's a picture from earlier this year during a 10 day Colorado fishing/riding/camping trip. We rode every day except one, and caught fish EVERY day. Epic. But no ride report. Sorry about that. I'll update this post with our adventures on this little ride. IMG_3812.JPG IMG_3765.JPG

I've driven further to ride less. Have a great trip.

I’ll wait to tell @Ty_ that it’s snowing here as well until he leaves...
but that’s why God made knobs, and heated grips, which I don’t yet have.

Knobs and heated grips it is! Otherwise this ride report will focus solely on bike maintenance and whiskey drinking.

Today was a 100 mile shakedown. @turn_one needed a first ride day on his new-to-him 790 Rally so we spent a lot of time jacking with suspension and levers, and swapping between each other's bikes for comparison. We also did roll on drag races in multiple gears to see how stock-ish compared to the tuned motor. Other very important data collection involved fuel consumption. We did a trip in the past where the bikes had vastly different fuel usage and our next two days are pushing mileage limits on the stock tank.
No drama on the ride, other than a few turnaround re-routes. We nearly connected a loop near the Apex mine but couldn't legally make it happen. Pic below.
The scenery was outstanding! St. George is an epic staging area. Tomorrow we will ride to the north rim of the Grand Canyon, camp, and return the next day. Fuel is a concern that we will monitor, but we have plenty of whiskey. And coffee.

On 12/31 we packed for camping and headed out for a night on the north rim
Of the Grand Canyon. It was snowing in St George when we left and 33 degrees. The further south we went the more snow we saw. 40 miles in we turned around, unsure of how much snow would accumulate throughout the day and how the roads would look the next day. Plan B took us south and east, into some incredible new terrain. Day three was our second attempt at the Grand Canyon, hoping the snow wouldn't keep us out. We filled up in Mesquite and headed in. 3d.jpg
    3a.jpg
    Beautiful country out there!
We had a bike issue, but it turned out to be a loose battery connection and a quick fix.
    3b.jpg
Eventually the route took us over 6k feet and we rode for a couple hours in snow. 3c.jpg
After 100 miles we decided that this wasn't the trip to see the canyon, and we headed north back to St. George. At dusk we selected a campsite and celebrated a fantastic way to start 2021. The next day was an uneventful ride back to the house.
Cheers everyone, and happy new year.

Pfft... Tell me something I don’t know!

Work and life getting in way of my dreaming about motorcycle adventures....

Haven’t been in the “Day Trippin” forum in years. Mostly an “Epic Rides” guy... But I like the way you travel! Ride safe brothers!
