Well I'm still retired and the CB350F restoration is finished and sold. I need a new project so I bought this 1974 Honda CB550 K0 as my next project:

Here she is in all her glory:

She cranks and starts but runs quite rough. At least one carb float valve sticks open. All the electrics work. Certain parts that are not supposed to be painted are painted. OEM exhaust is a plus but needs some work.

Both hubs have been painted blue. Yuck.

I am not a fan of the saddlebags. PO claims they are factory options. Maybe I can sell them.

The detailing is "interesting" to say the least:
It's car door trim. Here is where it is now:

Notice also the rattle can silver/blue paint job on the rims - this also has to go. It seems to come off pretty easily:

The paint on the tanks and fenders is not rattlecan. There are at least two primer coats, the color coat and a thick thick clear coat. It takes lots of stripper to get it off:

but with lots of polishing it may clean up:

It will be a while before I start to tear her apart in earnest, in the meantime I'll do what I can to salvage usable parts and clean them up. As with the CB350f, my goal is not Concours, but to bring her back to close to original condition. The OEM mufflers are a big plus, but there is some work to do on them to bring them back to close to original condition:

    both sides look like this:

A PO drilled the four holes in the bottom muffler - and I have no idea where the baffles on the top muffler have gone.

Here's what they are supposed to look like:

Well, that's the start at least.

    Here's a target:

I thought that they actually masked the front fender and the chrome was the original when I quickly looked at it. Also-thats a LOT of blue. Those wheels remind me of 77 Triumph Bonneville "Silver Jubilee" rims. Some people shouldn't be allowed to work on anything but a lawn mower

The front fender is not cleaning up well:

I’ve ordered used front and rear fenders from eBay. Along with a grab rail with rear turn signals as the saddlebags I removed forever had integrated turn signals.

The engine cover will polish up much better than this but it's a start.

    Time for a cocktail!
