So a 93 dr650 has popped up for sale near me that is super clean, 10k on the clock, and minimal mods(exhaust is all I’ve gathered so far). The price is right and he says it’s in good running order. It’s my understanding that these motors are very reliable with general upkeep. My question is this: it’s a pretty heavy bike, are there some common weight trimming mods? I’m riding an 09 KLX250S for my off road adventures at the moment(minimal) and am interested in some more power and carrying capacity for some possible overnight stuff. My wife and I camp off of a 15 Vstrom, but I’m planning some solo off road adventures with my grown sons. Not interested in spending a lot on a late model bike as we’re talking 2-3 times a year then some trail riding down here in FL(lots of sugar sand trails, not kind to hefty bikes)…thoughts?

That's the first series of dr650 I do believe, different animal than the '96 and later version. Should have a larger tank on it stock than the current version. I think they started making them in 1990.

Can i ask what the right price is on a 28 yr old DR is? I'm not hating. just curious. They are really reliable bikes but i'm not up on the various early years.
i'm guessing 2-3K? but with covid pricing i'm not sure anymore.

He just lowered to $2k on 4th day of listing. My thoughts are $17-1800 and I’ll bring it home

The older DR’s are closer to the KLR in weight and purpose but still air cooled. Personally, they are too heavy. You have a nice modern KLX. My advice is spend the money and upgrade it to a 351 big bore and a more touring oriented seat like a seat concept
