Personally, I cringe at the thought of riding a bike that multiple other people have ridden before I had a chance to go through it. Also how are you getting to where the bike is picked up and dropped off? "So for those reasons, I'm out." Not bashing the idea, just trying to point out stuff you may not have thought of and others might be concerned with. Best of luck!
Just to be clear, everyone would be riding their own bike. We would hand off a literal baton or something of the like. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I've edited the OP to better reflect the intent.
I participated in an event similar to this a few years ago on another board. We used a bag with a flag and a spot locator in it so everyone could keep track of the progress. Also turned it into a fund raiser for the pediatric brain tumor fund. It was all volunteer, riders signed up on the board and coordinated with other riders where and when to meet. Each rider picked up the bag, transported it to the next agreed to point, so on and so forth. Starting point was in Oregon if I remember right. Finished up in Florida. The bag made a total of about 3 trips back and forth across the country. I actually did the leg between Savannah and Brunswick ga. I’d be up for doing it.
Awesome! So it sounds like the theory is sound. I’m going to work on some logistics and post up some ideas. If you have any input since you’ve already done something similar I would love to have your feedback.
Keep it simple. A small bag or brief case type piece of luggage, maybe put an ADV banner in it, something each rider who participates could sign his or her name to it. A spot locator would be great if you could get a hold of one. When I did it we didn’t really put a time schedule on it, most of the riders ran it on the wknds, Where there wasn’t a lot of distance between riders a few would transfer it during the week. It was dubbed “ the pony express run “ started the run in the northern states in the early summer, ended in the southern states that fall. Get the word out about it, gage the interest. Who knows, could become an annual event!
Thanks for the info! Just for my benefit, being that I'm still fairly new to the forum, is there a better place to post this where it might get more traction/attention? Thanks!
Awesome! I'm going to start updating the OP with riders and their locations so that we can start working on this.
I’m in south ga. There are some other riders here as well would enjoy the opportunity to get in on this I’m sure.
If ya want to ad “adventure” and a novelty to it. Restrict the ride to 300cc or make is scooter only.
If you could expand this to be a 48 state ride it could be cool too. Start in Maine, end up out west. Or loop back and end in FL
Truthfully, it would be even cooler to do 48. We would need a lot of coordination for it, and I'm not sure what route, but I'm more than happy to brainstorm and plan it.
Start the trek in the northern states and work south. East to west or vice versa. Could easily finish up with several thousand miles of travel.
