Yep...only BRP back then was an 84 XL600R...followed by an 86.
I'd stop in to cook's for breakfast if I got moving early enough.
Looking forward to the other old stomping grounds.

I'm interested in a hand off. Claremont California, Los Angeles County. I can tote the baton around and show you/it some stuff.

Admittedly I’ve been absent mostly due to holidays and work-related stuff getting wrapped up towards the end of the year.

looking back, I think @dschmidt7of7 was the current possessor of the baton.

Sorry for the gap in my posts. Been out of town helping my brother prep for a move to northern California plus typical Christmas happenings and the fact that I've dismantled the bike for some engine work.

Here are some photos of a recent ride. We staged at my family's "desert" property just south and east of Victorville, CA. Had a great ride up to the San Bernardino Mtns and Big Bear. Mostly fire roads but we decided to take the "hard" way back.

Good fun, but shlepping our KLR's up and down somewhat technical soft single-track was a bit more work than we expected but made for a great adventure. Temps were frigid - down to 45 in the mountains. Baldwin Lake East of Big Bear.jpg Coxey Truck Trail.jpg East Victorville-Lucerne.jpg Overlooking Victorville.jpg The hard way back.jpg

I'll keep this moving around here or will gladly hand it off to the next guy. (TUCKERS - If you're ready to take the baton just PM me and we'll set a time and place to meet.)

    Happy New Year to all.

Did this last ride take you near the Bowen Ranch? toward the Hot Springs...
That was a pleasant find back in the day. Cant say hiking in MX boots was all that much fun, but it was well worth it in the end.

Happy New Year and New Adventures to y'all

For those that are following along, the baton is still safe and secure here in SoCal. Since my last post I'm kinda stuck in the middle of an engine rebuild and have been sidelined for several weeks. To give the snowbirds amongst us something to look at I've attached some photos of the baton when we took it up the coast. Just north of San Simeon (elephant seals), Big Sur, etc. I'll post some more once I'm back on two wheels.

LOCOPNY: Great detective skills. The hills in the photos are from the BLM area just east of Coxey Truck Trail where it branches east off of Bowen Ranch Road. (You might recall that Coxey TT goes from the Victorville area south and east up to Big Bear Lake and that Bowen Ranch goes more to the west.)

I've been riding that area for many years and own some property off Roundup Way. One of our more technical "squid filter" loops actually goes around the Bowen Ranch itself and crosses the trail to the hot springs a couple of times.

I'll post more photos of that area once I'm back on the "road".

    Take care,
    DSchmidt7of7

Sounds familiar...but it has been like 20 years since I rode around there. Keep them coming.

Got any warm weather ride photos to share with a cold busted but recovering rider?
Just reread the thread as a pick-me-up therapy. Rabbit hole to the HotSprings sounds awesome about now with -4* temp here.

Against my better judgment, I'm gonna try a Rocky Mtns to Sacramento ride beginning April 8th and could pick up the baton if it's anywhere near Sac around April 11th. We're then gonna head towards Death Valley and back to Colorado.
The baton is looking a bit battle-scarred and rough - might be time to give it a new coat of powder on the ends.
    Just an idea.

On June 17th I will be leaving Savannah Ga heading to the Beartooth then probably south into Colorado heading home July 3rd.

I will keep an eye on where the baton is and if possible bring it back east

I wonder how many miles it has traveled? This year we should keep a record by each rider that has it.

Jerry I know last year i did about 3,400 miles on it myself. By now it’s got to be bumping 15K or better. I would like to see it make a northern pass with the summer months approaching

I had it a whopping 379km/249miles....in late season. Probably could have done 2xs more without the snow delay.

Still an awesome experience that I'd do again given the correct timing.
