Ocean to Ocean and back. A giant loop so everyone can join the fun. Southern states in the winter and the northern states in the summer.
You can put me on your list. The end of Feb. or 1st part of March I will be riding from Arizona to Daytona Beach, FL then back to Spokane Valley, WA on an undetermined route at this point..... The end of June I will be hosting a campout in OR. July will take me into MT then most of Aug. I will be riding in AK. When you determine the timeline and route I might be able to take the baton at some point and get it to the next rider.
Speaking of the baton, I need to get that thing done. Haven't forgotten it, just busy at work and haven't had time to do much with it. Will get back on that project soon and get it finished up.
One can get analysis paralysis on things such as this. Bung a piece of paper in a 9” long 1” drain pipe with a cap on each end and deliver it to the next guy...you could start today...then we track it...let it wander where it may. Every rider puts his name on the paper.
Any updates on the baton? Routes? I’m working on a cross country trek latter part of may into June of next year.
I'll get you added! Sorry for the lack up updates folks, wife has been in the hospital recently, so we have had a lot going on and I haven't been doing a lot of riding. I expect the next step is to agree on a start point and approximate start date. I know there was mention of having the baton begin on the west coast and travel east, as the baton is already there. Being less familiar with the weather, and keeping in mind that we are planning to start in the spring, what do you west coast folks think about a start date?
No worries on the updates. We all know how life happens and I wish the best for you and your wife. As far as a relay starting location, I'd be happy to kick things off on the beach in Southern California - someplace iconic like on a surfboard in Newport, at the 'zoo' that is Santa Monica (Route 66 fame), or perhaps grab a shot with the Hollywood sign or in front of Disneyland. I think it'll be fun to see how many strange places it goes along the way. Kinda like the Flat Stanley project kids do in elementary school. A far as when to start, we can pretty much ride year round in SoCal so I'll wait to hear what works best for others. Looking forward to this... Happy Thanksgiving to all and please take a moment to count your blessings. DSchmidt7of7
I wouldn't be in a huge hurry to start - weather is gonna suck for quite a while yet for most of the country. I suspect that we'll be surprised how quickly this thing moves across the country. Baton update: haven't done anything with it lately but will try to finish it up next week.
