Kinda nervous, first time posting a ride report of the epic variety...lol. Have enjoyed many a well written adventure here, hope this story does the genre justice :-)

I like to start my stories with thanks for those who have helped make it feasible; @Strong Bad, @jonz, @Hill Climber, @BigDogAdventures, @MJS, @Todd157k, @Rhode trip, and all the others who added feedback to the planning thread I started to get this put together. Wouldn’t have been possible, or at least as smooth without that input, sincere thanks fellas.

The plan: haul bikes from OR to Tecate. Ride 6 days and meet my family in Loreto. Have a great family vacation for 10 days, then jump back on the bikes and ride 6 days back to the border. My good friend is flying into Loreto 2 days before our return trek north, riding a spare bike with us. Load 4 bikes and drive 2 days back to OR. Hence the odd thread title :D

We’re currently 150 miles or so from LA. The trek started mostly ok, though the plan to leave at 0700 was screwed when the infamous TY called at 7:01 to tell me he didn’t know where his passport was. Surprising? Not so much...lol. He returned home after being half way to my house. 45 minutes later, he calls to tell me it was in his tank bag all along. We must be nice to the weak minded, especially when we’re using his van and trailer.

We loaded my WR up, hit TRs house and loaded the other WR, and jumped on I5 south for the ~18 drive at 9:30, not bad at only 2.5 hours later :lol3

I’m planning to post updates as time and cel service allow. Then do the real meal deal report upon returning home - far more pictures, drone footage, helmet footage, and much easier typing..typing on a phone sucks...lol.

Thanks in advance for following along.

A few pics of the trek south thus far

Hoping all the bikes make the journey.

Riding in a cargo van is far better when there’s a reclining couch.

If you made it through Stockton, you're past the most dangerous part of the trip. Enjoy Baja! I'll be following closely.

Not sure about that, we stopped in El Cajon for the night after dealing with holy hell traffic going through LA. Think we have Stockton beat...lol. Always an adventure!

What a fantastic couple of days! Rode 80 miles and spent the night near Laguna Hanson. Stayed at a place called Oxxxo De La Sierra and camped. Couldn’t have been better, Hunter and his wife Patti were truly outstanding. Great dinner, great breakfast, a camp fire, and excellent service...like bringing coffee out to our site. Highly recommend them if you’re heading that way.

Our goal today was to hit Rancho Meling...didn’t happen. The advice of the track from Mikes to Meling is good, not big bike friendly. We were 10 miles away and had to turn back, better safe as we’re only 2 days into it.

Ended up in San Vicente at La Palma, nice motel with the best damn street tacos right in front. Long day in the saddle, looking forward to a good sleep.

Some pics of the last two days.

    Hey Guys,

I'm planning to do this ride with a couple guys in a few weeks. Plan is to trailer bikes from Boise ID to Mesa AZ on Nov 29 and then ride a loop into Baja for 2 weeks, ending back in Mesa and then hauling ass back to Boise. Any info you guys can provide about route, weather would be fantastic! (oh and good cerveza and caliente senioritas as well :)

Once you get to better wi-fi, I'd appreciate some detail on the trail/road where you turned around on Mikes to Meling... pic? Maybe going through next week from Melings to Mikes.
Hope all is going well and you're not gorging yourselves on too many tacos and cervezas!

Hey @Hill Climber! If you’re heading down the track from Meling, you should be ok...unless you’re on your big bike. 3 big rock steps in a row, and not small ones. Doable on smaller bikes, but tough going up on anything. Only have pics on the camera, nothing on my phone.

That said, I don’t know what it was like from Meling, might have been crappy for the last 11 miles too. We made it 2/3 of the way up.

Be safe and post up if you head that way!
