It as like its driven by the servo and not the front brake lever.

The rear (foot) brake lever seems to actuate it pretty solidly.

the front brake handlebar lever however, doesnt seem to turn it on or OFF>

only turn it on and then wait a bit and maybe turn it off later?

what am I missing with the abs/servo set up on this bike?

Usually that is the microswitch in the front brake.

Ok 3 times in the last couple of weeks the ABS warning never goes away, and one time I actually had VERY little brakes
I had to coast to stop, turn of and restart, and then the servo returned.

yesterday, the light just continued to flash as I rode off, so I stopped and reset it again.

am I doing something wrong in the start up procedure?
yesterday I was parked on a hill so I was holding the front brake the entire time during the start up sequence, did that cause the error?

Presume you've bled the brakes & pump... My own '05 doesn't seem to mind whether I hold the lever during start up, or not.

Residual braking is not something that I've experienced, but my understanding is that the effect is disconcerting to practically frightening. Surely that depends upon speed.

If fresh fluid, I'd make sure the battery was fully charged and then go out to vigorously exercise the ABS on dirt road or long patch of grass. If the pump functions as expected, I'd feel good about that.

Bottom line, I don't think it has anything to do with your start up sequence. I'd worry about dirty or low fluid, but if that' not the case then the pump would get my attention.

Otherwise, are the bike's electricals all in good order? And nothing on a gs911?

I dont have a GS911 so i no idea there.

Ill read how to flush and bleed, I have ZERO concept of whats involved on this bike, nor when it was done last.

    Thanks for the feedback.

It still may be related to the front brake brake light problem. You have that issue sorted out yet?

Yeah, it's too frickn hot down on the coast for me to ride. All my bikes are on maintainers, I'll be getting them ready for riding season around October.

Having grown up on the deep South, the car or engine is often less important than the a/c that it runs.

    Good point.

and I do not think they make most cars AC systems like they used to.
at least many that I have driven/ridden in.

the days of the YORK compressor using 5HP off the crank pulley are gone.

got home from work today ( riding the DR650)

roll 2005 R1200GA out into the drive way to start trying to diagnose whats going on with the brakes.

    key on, NOTHING
    totally dead.

    battery voltage at 5.45volts

BRAND new Deka battery 2 weeks ago, was good and charged by me, bike was started and ridden repeatedly, I think it has sat for a week without being started?

    this is getting godamned ridiculous.

someone come with a trailer and get a good deal on a really pretty red 1200GS

    charged the battery up.

    started up

idles for about 45 seconds and then dies.

At this point I will just part it out.

bmw went south WAY south after 2003..

finally revved the hell out of it and got it to stay running for a bit, rode around the block

ALL error lights go out, but the front brake is hanging, NOT always, but most of the time.

the bike is basically unsafe to ride, at any speed over 30MPH
and it is obvious when coasting that the front brake is hanging and then not..

tail light is ON all of the time, front switch might be the culprit.
I can not imagine ever trusting this over complicated piece of junk to ever go very very.

you guys riding these bikes around have way more balls ( or credit card) than I do.

That's obviously, and understandably, frustrating. Ugh.

If the battery is certain to be good, then there's an unexpected drain.

Any added accessories? If not, I'd consider a search a la @roger 04 rt. That's not the easy path, but it's useful.

And have you tried disconnecting the neg. (-) battery cable when the bike is unattended? Easy to do on a 1200.

No i have not considered disconnecting the battery while unattended, because that is silly.

because I dont do that for other bikes, cars, boats, or jetskis typically, for 10 days.... haha

I removed everything from the battery other than the factory wires.

this is just a lemon, a bad one.

is it worth more as is, or in parts?
that is what im trying to decide right now.

    very dissappointing.

it makes good power, and SOMETIMES has good brakes.
those are the only advantages over my old 1100

the unreliability and sometimes surprise NO BRAKES, is a deal breaker, so back to the good old reliable 1100GS
