Thanks to John, his family and everyone who worked so damn hard to pull off the RMAR. I had a great time and can't wait till next year.

Here's an update on my V- Strom 1000 I apparently broke on the Friday 'Easy Big Bike Ride'. I seem to have located the issue and fixed it. if anything, this has a moral of why to never overlook the small things.

Woody's crew graciously trailered the bike and me to Denver (Thanks a sh#tload guys). i trucked the bike back home on Wednesday and got into it -- drained the oil and strained it, and all was normal. Checked the oil filter and the same -- no metal bits, grit, dirt or water anywhere. Then i decided to give the entire bike a good look over -- and that's when I found the issue, and why i am an AssHat!

The right side chain adjuster bolt (non drive side) had broken and fallen out. Then under hard acceleration (hell, it's 100hp so i gotta play with it) the right side of the axle pulled forward and threw the chain badly out of alignment. Thus the noise was the chain popping over the countershaft sprocket, not a destroyed clutch, transmission bearing, shift fork or anything major i feared. I cleaned the chain, lubed, replaced the bolt, aligned and set slack. Now it rides as it did before. I was so tied up in the big picture I overlooked the small. Ironically, just before I decided to trailer back, I reminded myself to check and adjust the chain before limping it back home, and then decided not to waste my time as I was trailering back anyway. So I missed the rest of my post-rally tour.

So, I'll try to find the time for a few days of touring next month to make up. Thanks to all of you (and the KY Bourbon industry) for your support.

Yeah, I've done it on a bike (2001 WR250F) before. It was a lot of fun.
I need to get back up there to Moab and do it again....

I think Duke needs to print up some "RMAR...I survived the 'easy' big bike ride!" shirts.

    I'd buy one :D

    Any others?

After limping it back to Phoenix and spending a week in the shop, the GSA's diagnosis was a bad throttle position sensor. Hope it holds together for next year's RMAR and I won't have to leave early again. Or maybe just bring the KTM 450 next time.

    See you all next year!

Thanks to John and all the folks that helped make RMAR a sucess. This was my first ADV rally and won't be the last. Had a great time getting down to Saguache, met some great people, ate excellent food and generally had an all around blast. Being late starters, we missed the group rides but sampled the local rides just the same. Each ride was a "bring home the big pieces" ride as my wife insisted that we be able to actually ride the largest part home:D.
Once again, THANKS to all that put this event together. Already plotting nexts years run to RMAR:evil
