Anything is possible here, and all bikes will have a variety of terrain they can ride!
Paved roads and a great road tour to Traverse and Leelanau area.........
Dirt -gravel roads for miles and miles, wide enough for cars.........
Two-tracks with a mix of dirt, gravel, and some sand.............
Single track for the adventourous guys on dirt bikes, last year we had 1200 GS's and a Goldwing with a side car on the same route. It wasn't super easy for them but it depends on rider experience and how you like to roll.......
Power line trails, hill climbs, trails thru the bush.............

Anybody can ride up here, on any kind of terrain, if you don't like the dirt section, hit the gravel roads or pavement for awhile. We try and meet for lunch or snacks in the afternoon at a location centralized to where people are heading.

The fact is, anybody can ride whatever they feel most comfortable on, we don't have any 100 mile single track loops that you would be locked into.

Last year we had everything, 125 2-smokers up to Bmw 1200's and Goldwings..............the usual offenders of 300's 450's, 640's, and everthing in between!

Bring what you got and ride it, Plenty of people to help.

It's not "if" you tip over, it's "when" you tip over!

Cheers, looking forward to alot of new faces

I had a "wee" strom up there on Shinko 705's last year and had a good time just blazing our own path with dmarino riding the tiger 800 on TKC 80's. There is literally all kinds of trails/dirt roads/scenic paved roads to please everyone. If your Brother in law is adventurous and not afraid of sand (deep at times) you could go anywhere on a wee strom, just not as fast as the dirt/true dual sport bikes. TKC's will make life a little more easy going but nothing is impossible.

Thanks for the info regarding suitability of a Vstrom. I ride a KLR, pretty much anywhere, but upnorth Michigan sand and me just don't get along that well. I do like camping and beer. And the KLR runs Kenda knobbies. I've got it on the calendar!

Best option is to put a tire chock on the hack and tow the XR up. I'll have my XR600 there this year, and hopefully my brother will rock the KLR. Which brings me to Old's post about sand.

I added bead/rim locks to my KLR and run 14psi on sand/trails. It's an amazing difference and really makes it more than tolerable. My next step is to add a 12V outlet so i can air back up on the go, but I only run low pressure after towing the bike to trails with friends.

I'm sending a check out tomorrow, last year was easily the most fun I had with pants on.

Haha that was a hilarious maneuver! I can probably best my height from last year on the XR though, the hard part will be doing it on purpose this time. It really depends on trailer space, plus I just got my XR road legal yesterday for the lunch run so that gets priority. I definitely don't want to miss out on that longer ride this year.

Sounds like it'll be a good time - I'm in.

In all seriousness, that shirt needs to come in a blue and white option. :evil
